And now for something different. I recently inherited a 71/84 Mauser (11.15 x 60R) from my father. He bought it new/unfired back in the late 50ss/early 60s. It is still in perfect condition. He bought two boxes of CIL ammo decades ago, and I shot a few rounds through it at Carters Country in Houston when I was a teenager. We were both amazed by the accuracy of the rife. At 200 yards from the bench I put 3 shots into 2.25 inches! Anybody else have experience with these fine old rifles ? I recently shot up the rest of the CIL ammo (it all functioned perfectly even after 25 or so years or more). Accuracy even out to 400 yards was phenomenal...I was hitting 1-2 ft sized rocks from sitting. I recently reloaded the 385 gr RCBS .446" FP bullets ahead of 33 grains of IMR 4198. Same great accuracy. I'm taking this rifle mule deer hunting this fall (we are having a pre-ww2 military rifle deer hunt this fall on a friend's property). Any body else have experience with these great old rifles ? Ben Reinhardt Pocatello, ID

I came across a nice one a couple years and been havin' fun since. Great accuracy, 4198 has worked well for me also. Black powder or the various substitutes are fun too. What's also fun are the comments at the range, like, "what the hell is/was that?"

Check out the 11mm Mauser thread, it is the same cartridge only using the European name. (edit) Oops, just glanced over your post the first time: now that I have replied I see that you know this. Sorry. [ 06-26-2003, 09:00: Message edited by: 45LCshooter ]
