Something I have discovered in my 450 No2 and my 450/400 3 1/4" is what I call "the 75% rule". In both of my doubles a bullet approx 75% the weight of the "regular" bullet regulates with the sights and shoots good right/left groups with the same powder charge that works with the regular full weight bullet. This has worked with IMR4831 and RL-15 in both rifles and also with IMR3031 in the 450 No2.
I would recommend you start with 88 grains of RL-15 and work up. You must use a filler.
What is the jacket thickness on the 400gr. Hawks?

450 NE 2,

Thanks for the most interesting observation!

The jackets of these projectiles are 0.035" as recommended for deer and smaller bear. Thought they would be worth a try.

Check my previous posts, I have had excellent results on deer and pigs with Hawk 300gr..025jkt bullets in my 450/400 at @ 2300fps and with 285gr..035jkt in my 9.3 at @ 2330fps.
I would not use the .025jkt bullets on anything bigger, but on deer and wild pigs they expand great. I have some 400gr. .035jkt bullets for the 450/400 that I am going to try on pigs soon.
The Hawks have given great penetration and tremendous expansion. I have had more one shot "drop to the shot" with the Hawk's than any other bullet.
Those 400 gr. Hawk's should hit like the Hammer of Thor in your 470.

In mine, I use the 400 grain Hawk's with H4198 powder and dacron filler. I load 68.0 grains of powder and 8 grains of dacron. However, this is in a Ruger #1 conversion. If you are shooting a double, START LOW and work up. Probably start around 58-60 grains. I use standard CCI #200 primers (not magnums), for this load. Shoots very clean, accurate, and makes a cool snowstorm with every shot.
