Had the most interesting conversation with my wife this morning. She asked me "How come you are buying the $1000 rifle and not the $2000 one?" "Well, honey, didn't you object to the expensive one?" "If it is better than maybe you should get that one..." Soooo...

Suppose I'd just want to use the rifle out of the box, why would I pay C$1000 more for a Ruger MKII in .416 Rigby than for a CZ550? And I don't mean looks, but reliability, accuracy, sturdiness...anything that really matters. (I've excluded the Winchester...too light for my liking. I haul my 9.5 lbs .300WM (unloaded) up and down the mountain all day without thinking too much of it...I think about recoil a lot more).

Thanks for any advice or opinions.

Hey Frans,

I have a custom 25-06,30-06, 35 Whelen, and 405 Winchester on a P-14 action. The rifle I prefer for deer is the .303 British I bought for pennies, in comparison. The rifle is accurate, with more than enough power to bring down the largest white tail that ever lived and takes all the years abuse I have dished out.

My .303 is not even out of the box, maybe out of the second world war but it is perfectly adequate for what I want.

In my opinion, first get what you need then get what your wallet will allow.

Good Shooting,

Smoker

Franz, I have to say, the Ruger's prettier, but for function and value for your dollar, I'd go with the CZ. - Dan

When I decided to get a 416 Rigby, I had enough money to get either a Dakota, a Ruger, a CZ, and even had a shot at an original Rigby Rigby. I got the CZ, and couldn't be happier. For very little money you can tweak just the way you want. I would not trade it for any of the other 416 Rigby's made by any other maker.

I have a cz .416 and have added acustom composite stock to it. I am very happy with it. The cz won't let you down. Apparently thay have better set up as far as an action lug goes to. Others may be able to expand on this more.

Is that a Corporal trading stock you have on your 416? Does anyone else make a Synthetic stock for a CZ?
