I have heard that the Chapius double have barrels that are machined from single steel billet. In other words, the regulation is machined into the barrels since they are in fact a single steel block. Do you know if this is true or simply some misguided (or deceitful) sales hype.
I know and they also claim to use a laser beam to regulate barrels. I don't believe a word of it. I never met a Chapuis rifle, S/S or O/U that shot the way I like. Of course, to each his personal standards but when I want the barrels shooting together, I mean "together" and not 10 cm distant. Considering the skill demanded in building a quality double, there's no such thing as an cheap one. If a good one is too expensive (true, they're not for everybody, same as a Mercedes or a Porsche), one would be best inspired to buy the best (custom) bolt-action his budget can afford.

Once upon a time Francotte was among the very best, that was 30 years ago. IMHO, Lebeau-Courally may arguably be the present best, and fully equal to the older Purdey or H&H (same prices too). Check this site and I'd be surprised if it doesn't impress you : http://www.lebeau-courally.com/
