Probably a dumb question but....Sako describes their 85 Action as controlled round feed and mechanical ejection. What does this mean? Is it different from the traditional CRF actions like pre-64 Win, Ruger RSM, Mauser 98 or CZ??

Thanks!!

Mechanical ejection means it uses a fixed blade ejector rather than a spring loaded plunger type . The 85 action might better be described as semi controlled feed . It is not the same design as the others you list.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

I agree with the "semi controlled fed" description. I bought one in 270 Win a couple of years ago. The bolt face doesn't pick up and control the cartridge from the mag as in a typical CRF. It is more of a push feed until you push the bolt all the way forward. However, it then grabs and controls the round without having to rotate the bolt handle to the closed position.

Question here:

I just bought a Sako 85 in 375 H&H, it came with open sights, but would like to put a low power scope on it, however it is not drilled and tapped for bases, just wanted to know what bases you guys are using on your Sako 85? Looks like its dovetailed and tapered, would I have to buy just the Sako made bases specifically for the 85?

Leupold, Warne and Millet also have Sako compatible integral rings. You cannot go wrong with the Sako rings. The tapered dovetail system is very stable as the rings just get tighter with recoil.

You will need to figure out the angles correctly - in other words, the point of impact will move to the left if you move the scope & rings forward & vice vesa. In all my Sako rifles (& other rifles), I bore sight the scope at the tip of a pine tree 2 miles away and then tighten the rings. I make sure that the eye relief etc. are correct before this. The reason I am explaining this basic issue is that it is possible to get a bit confused with how the dovetail system works and then have to adjust windage to the extreme limits of the scope.

I learned from that mistake many years ago!! LOL!!

Take a look at Talley mounts. They are rock solid. I have about a dozen Sako rifles with them.

I am using Sako rings on both of mine.

They are good looking, tough and don't scratch the scope up.

No one sells them in AK, will have to order online. So with that said, for a low power 30mm scope would you recommend low, mid or high rings? will probably leave the open sights on. Anyone have a problem with them ghosting in the scope?

I went with low rings for my Z6 1-6x24. The medium rings from Sako are more like high rings from other manufacturers.
