Yes, it's steel but until they come out and people wring out the capabilities the rest is speculation.

Unfortunately since it's Russian it's probably cheapalloy.

Seriously, Remington says the limit in 45.70 is 28,000 PSI but the 30.06 model with factory loads has a higher face thrust than the 45.70 model. I calculated it a while back and to match the thrust you could load the 45.70 to near 37,000 psi.

Here's the calculation:

45-70 (.608 Rim) .302*.302*3.14159*28,000psi = 8,022 Lbs force
30.06 (.473 Rim) .2365*.2365*3.14159*60,000psi = 10,542 Lbs force

If you extrapolate that, it means that you could load the 45-70 to 36,795+psi to get the same thrust to the face.

At 38,000 PSI the 45-70 will push a 400 grain bullet just over 1800 fps.

We'll see what we get if the group buy goes through.

From what I've read.....NO...I certainly wouldn't plan on it at all.

Big Grin I could very well be wrong,I have been before once, or twice Wink but IMO, anyone who is thinking of opening this thing up to a 450#2NE is dreaming! I'd even re-barrel the 30-06 version to 30-30 with factory 170 gr loads, and the 45-70 could be made into a 45-120 at most! I personally would leave it 45-70, and use it for a disposable canoe moose rifle, in case of capsize in deep water! beer
