Yep, that RUM magazine box on the M70 Classic works perfectly as is for the .375 Ruger based wildcats.

Slick feeder! Three down and one up, a four shooter which, when done in stainless and synthetic, is deserving of the title: "Winchester Wasilla"

It surely beats a "Kimber Talkeetna."

The case limitations with long monometal bullets will be negated by loading the Ruger wildcats to 3.6" box length.

A featherweight elephant rifle of 6.5# weight is easy to build.
Easy to carry.
Hard on the shooters shoulder,
but even harder on the target. thumb

M70's actions are as light in weight as Hawkeye actions.
They have 0.2" longer magazines.

Of course, a Hawkeye could be opened up, but simply rebarreling an M70 is a snap.

Better use for the RUM Winchester actions is the 500 MDM!

That is a hard to come by action, and is different than that of the standard action for 338-458 or 375 HH. For that 375 Ruger case I would think that a standard 375 HH action would work just as well???? Maybe??

To get to 6.5 lbs with that going to have to have a very light barrel, or maybe short barrel?

Now if you could just find a use for the tons of M700s in RUM chamberings. That would be an acheivement to be proud of.

I have a model 70 Stainless Classic in 300 Ultramag...just waiting for the right caliber to strike my fancy. Yes, these are very hard to come by...and getting harder as people convert them to big bore rifles or set them back as collectibles.

I have converted 5 of the Wincheser RUMs to other cartridges. They turned out to be fine rifles and actions. Currently I am out of stock!

I converted one to 404 Jeff back when CDNN had them for $449. It has a McGowen barrel from Harry, and McMillian stock - I should put sights on it and some QRW mounts and take it to Africa and shoot an ele. I wish I had another one now to convert to 375/404.

I am sorry, your thread seems to have taken a turn towards the WIn RUM action. I think I am responsible for this, my apologies, as I know it was directed to you working with the Ruger wildcats. Which I still contend would most likely work in a standard actin-not the coveted RUM action???? Maybe.

I would have liked to got in on those at $449, but somehow missed that. I would have for sure bought half dozen. I converted 5 of these. The first to 338 RUM-which I like for 338 cal--then a full length 358 RUM version--9.3 version-and two 500 MDM rifles. Right now I can't think of any conversions on this action I would want to do, but there is always a chance.

OK, OK, a standard .416 Remington M70 could have its barrel threads whacked off and rethreaded to produce a 23"-barreled .416 Ruger with a 3.6" box, or rebarreled to .423 or .458 Ruger.

That 300 RUM M70 might work better as a .395/404 Jeffery. Wink The neck of the cartridge could be shortened to make room for long-nose bullets in the "short" 3.6" box. Shoulder sharpened to 20-30 degrees and blown forward, as opposed to the 8.5-degree Jeffery shoulder and LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG neck.

What more fitting caliber for a stainless-synthetic "Winchester Wasilla" than a .395/404?

Not that short! Maybe 2.75" for the .395/404 instead of the 2.5" for case length of the 404 Dakota.

The .458/404 Dakota 2.5": thumb
Yes, the M70 bolt face is more than big enough for the 404 Jeffery case head/rim.

I once had a dachsund puppy I named Frank Furter. Frankie lasted 11 years, by my side from Kentucky to Florida to Alaska and back to Kentucky. Died in his sleep, a champ to the last, big voice, little dog. Could get under the sofa and bark at intruders. He was from a long line of vicious 'possum hunters.
He would leap three feet into the air to bite a 'possum dangled before him, after he had dug it out of its borrow.
Prehistoric!

Love the weiner dog puppy in a bun. clap
