First of all I would offer thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this one. I have a Dillon AT500 and RL550B which I am attempting to load .416 Rigby on. I sold my single stage press before checking on doing this...(idiot!!)

Anyway, ordered a conversion for my Dillon to reload. The short story is that the shell plate is TOO small to hold the Rigby (Norma) rounds. I called Dillon and they were no help, saying that the plate I got was the biggest they make.

So I guess my only option is to have it opened up to fit my brass. I have over 250 rds new brass. Can anyone else come up with something different?

I am also dissapointed with Dillon as this is the first time I have ever got the "too bad, your screwed" attitude from this usually great company.

I realize I maybe should have posted this in the reloading section, but I figured I have a better chance of an answer here. Thanks again



First of all thanks for the prompt replies..To answer some individual, djpaintles, I am not mad at Dillon for not tooling up, I was just upset at the attitude of the customer service rep I talked to. If he just would have said they don't make it that would have been fine. It seemed like he was telling me I was wrong when I was holding both a number of cases (to make sure it wasn't just a fluke) and a duplicate of the shell plate they are going to send me.

As for getting another press, unfortunately I redid the basement where my loading room is and built my bench into that wall unit. Like I said earlier (idiot!!!) I failed to try the Dillons first before I built my area of the bench. Without major modifications I cannot add another press, as there is no room. (You know, add a kid, don't get a bigger house, and then something has got to give) Unfortunately, my loading area "had to give". Anyway, thanks again for the information and I will call Dillon tomorrow and see if I can't order the one that Bren MkI suggested.

My advice is to buy a LEE CLASSIC PRESS

I own one and it's simple and well made! Big enough to load 475#2 Jeffery on. The price is right. If you can find someone to open the plate for you, you'll spend more on that, than a new press. Save the Dillon for the rest and buy the LEE for the Rigby. Just my opine.

I'm a little surprise at you being mad at Dillon for not spending the thousands of dollars to develop a progressive reloader for the 2 or 3 people in the world that want one for a 416 Rigby.
IMHO no serious reloader should be without a quality single stage press. I have a Dillon also but find a single stage far more versitile. The Dillon is great only for high volumn i.e. 500 at a time and up. And you can buy a high quality single stage press for less than a Dillon complete caliber conversion.......DJ
