Finally found a few minutes to shoot upstate to give my dad's new AHR-built 585 a try. Once again, as funtional as it is beautiful. Shot point of aim @ 50 yards, handled beautifully and felt great. I loaded a bunch of 650 grain Woodleigh BP softs (I figure they will make one hell of a splat) with the intention of taking out some maurauding pumpkins, but ran out of daylight and really want my dad to have the honor of first blood (or pumpkin juice), so those will have to wait.
Anyway, hats off to Wayne and Ed and the rest of the crew at AHR who put this baby together.

What kind of velocity will the .585 AHR get with 750's and a heavy but safe load? Isn't the .585 AHR a .600 OK necked down with no other changes or am I mistaken? If it is, I'll go out on a limb and say it should probably get around 2500 fps if it is a necked down .600 OK but, again, I'm not not 100% sure about the cartridges development. It seems like AHR basically wanted to put .577 T-Rex performance in a CZ 550 action.....and that's a good thing! We needed a somewhat affordable .577 T-Rex type cartridge that looked as good as it performed! Wink

Again, that was a hell of a nice gift and a great story! Congratulations to both of you.

I saw 2438, 2442, 2428fps over the Oehler 35P for three shots with a Woodleigh 750gr soft before light faded too much. No signs of pressure at all.

I was disappointed because I also have a bunch of RGB's 900gr .620 BoreRiders that I wanted to try in the 600 OK but didn't since I wasn't going to be able to chrono them.

I was easily able to get 2700fps from 730gr .600's so the .585 should do the same although you do lose a little case capacity. Truth be told I didnt push it either, so 2800 might be achievable. however no question it will outperform the .577T-Rex. Although I did develop a .585/.600 years ago, I just could not get excited about it so it just sits in the safe.
Too bad you didnt shoot the bore riders I was waiting for a report. -Rob
