This is the first time I have used Triple 7. I have not seen/read anything about any problems with large charges of it and Hodgdon does not give any warnings about it. So...? I am going to run a graduated series of loads across the chronograph and it should be interesting to plot a load vs velocity curve. Added... I should add that I am using the roughly 10% load reduction that is recommended for Triple 7 compared to blackpowder and Pyrodex.

Gents, make sure you do NOT use fffg for these large bores.... I used 777 115 gr in my kodiak double.. and could probably go a bit futher... I've done fairly extensive chrono/testing on pryo, 777, elephant on my doubles.. and 777 gives, by far, the best and most consistant performance.. in fact, elephant's MAx load was like 1100 fps... and the starting load of 777 was 1160... and maxed out at 1350... when I got tired of adding the kick!!! heck, i don't know if fg is available, but that would probably be good. you can always start and do it like the old way... start with a muzle dia ball, and 2x the length in powder, and work up till the grass catches on fire.... jeffe

How has your experience been with triple 7? I have heard that things get goofy with large charges and avoided it for my tiny 160 grain charges in my 20 project. Without trying to figure it out, we should have roughly equivolent loads in relation to bore size; in am interested in your work.

Scot, I believe it was your posts from about a year ago that pushed me over the edge. Thanks, I think... ![]()
