This Dad's new toy. He built it from scratch. Yes the WHOLE thing. The gun tube is a 5 peice assembly, that was made in my shop in Va.
Its a golf ball bore, 1835 12 pound Mnt howitzer.

Very neat! Did you follow an original design, or did you come up with your own?

I followed a copy of the the original gun tube drawings when I drew up the plans. They were donated via e-mail by a gentelman in California. (Longcamp web site

I scaled down an original cannon carriage for the wood plans; except for the wheels. I had a set of plans for 16 spoke wheels, so Dad used those as is. The original wheels had 12 spokes.

I'd say so, It's very nicely done....congrats.....

when I built mine I designed the bore to shoot a beer can (aluminum) filled with concrete. I really packs a punch.

I think the golf ball shooter makes a lot more sense than the bigger bores. You did your homework well I'd say.

Now that is beautiful!!!! could you cast and load a lead ball of that diameter? I would Love to set up a blind here in Texas and try to anchor a wild hog with one of those.

If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

Els--not something I'd want to lug up into the tower blind or the tripod, but maybe a ground blind next to the waterin hole? Or, maybe hook it behind a 4-wheeler or sit it in the bed of YOUR truck?

And, not a single projectile, but a handful of .50 cal round balls--talk about a herd-shooter.

Rusty Marlin, your dad did a great job building that howitzer. It is in a whole nother league from my 1-1/2"

It does pack a punch, though. This is 1/4" plate @ 100yds.

Els, I'd be afraid that a solid lead projectile would shake the cariage apart after not very many. It would just be too heavy. Now a Zinc ball... that would be just about the same weight as an Iron projectile. But Dad still says "No." It's his baby. I scrounged up a big billet of aluminum though for a mold just in case he changes his mind. Personally I think a Zinc Fostner slug would be the tits.

He has been joking about loading it with a dixie cup of #2 shot and going turkey hunting.

Hog killer, that's quite a feild piece at 256#. I think Dads wieghs somewhere around 20-30 and that might be conservative. My three year old daughter can pick up the trail and drag it all over the yard.
