I missed out on a Ruger No 1 in 450/400 with some ammo and brass the other night and was feeling a little bummed about it. The dealer said he had another one he was going to list and I made an offer and he accepted! I am starting to look for dies, brass and bullets and need to find a low power scope to put on it. I think I am going to try some cast bullets in it also if anyone has any recommendations as to what bullet or mold? This should be a fun gun

I had one but sold it here last year. Grear combo of rifle and caliber. I put a mercury brake in the butt so it kicked like a 243.

Ended up buying a Bushnell 4500 1-4X 30mm scope to put on it. Debating on the rings, should I go Warnes with the QD levers or the Alaska Arms that mount the scope lower?

What is wrong with the Ruger rings that came with it?

I had a rear express sight blade made and a shotgun style or DR style safety made to avoid ejecting cases rebounding back into chamber.

Some days wish I hadn’t sold it!

Ruger didn’t have any in stock other than stainless and high rings. I searched several of the usual scope and gun sites to no avail other than high rings. I then started looking at other brands and the Warne QD rings looked good and I use them in my Steyr. Someone suggested the Alaska Arms rings and I sent them an email with a couple of questions. The owner called me and after talking to him for a while and what I was looking for and his rings sit lower than the medium rings of everyone else I ordered a set. They seem to realize that not every 30mm scope has a 56mm objective

Looks good. I put Leupold vx3 1.5-5 on mine. Its become a favorite. I bought a bunch of Woodleigh bullets, to try. Been shooting 280gr lead with imr4198. Much fun. Put a pachmyer old english pad. It added length which helps me and really helps recoil. The hornady dgs load is quite a handful.
