2 bore

Here are the pictures I promised of my two 8 Bores. Sorry it took so long but I had to really scramble to buy them and get them shipped to me so I could take the pictures, [Big Grin] Christmas, don't you know.

 -

I have also included Todd in the picture so you all know that I actually took them and not my 'neighbor'.

The front one is a Tolley, fluid steel barrels. Shoots an 1150 grain Bullet at 1450fps. 11 Drams of BP. [Eek!]

The back one is a Manton, Damascus Barrels. Shoots an 850 grain roundball at 1400 fps. 8 Drams of BP.

I'll let Todd fill you in on the technical details. [Wink]

Hi Mickey,
Nice looking rifles. You should bring them up to the Northern B.C. big bore shoot. I would pay to try one of them out. Well actually buy the beer.
If that's too far then we'll have a Southern B.C. big bore shoot of the Sechelt variety.
Take good care,
470 Mbogo

Mickey, I think those are just like the 4 of them that Todd E owns. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] And I think "Judy" owns a couple also. If you have any questions about these rifles, you should email him. He's had LOTS [Wink] of experience with big bores. [Roll Eyes]

By the way nice looking guns, although they look more like grenade launchers to me. [Confused]

As for you, Motor Mouth Wannabe, I'll settle for a picture of you with a cap pistol.

Hell, I'm ahead of your phony ass and all I've posted was me with a .22 K Hornet! Top that, shit for brains. [Mad]

The clown/jester doll is an hilarious touch in the given context! [Big Grin]

Mighty impressive armament.

I promise not to badmouth your 404 Jeffery anymore. As you obviously have good taste in firearms, the 404 Jeffery must be O.K. [Smile]

Thanks for sharing! Happy Holidays to you too!

Mickey,

Very nice guns. How much do those weigh? Looks like a whole lot of steel in the receiver and barrels.

I read an article somewhere about a guy who made his own double, I think a four bore, and said the recoil wasn't horribly punishing, just a gigantic shove. How would you describe it? BTW he flattened a large buff on an end-to-end shot with it.

Todd G (not to be confused with Todd the Troll, a member of the Village People)

Both rifles weigh around 17 lbs. The recoil is not as bad as one might think, a irresitable shove. Sorta like being hit by a train going 5 mph, it doesn't hurt but it will run you over. [Big Grin]

Here is another picture.

That's a 700 H&H shell in the Bore.

Since you are being so gallant I promise not to bad mouth the 416 Rigby anymore. This doesn't include the other 416 wannabes though. [Wink]

Anyone wanting to shoot a 500 Jefferys can handle the 8 Bore. [Cool]

What's the Northern BC Big Bore Shoot? I might bring one of them up to Van. in Feb or Mar if you want to give a whirl. [Wink]

Mickey,

Great photos. I really liked that second one! [Big Grin]

Like my friend 470 Mbogo, I too have a hankerin to shoot anything in the big bore category. Looking at those pictures is almost too much!!! If you do have the desire to bring those bad boys across the border, I'd drive a long way and gladly pitch in my share just to touch one of them off! [Smile]

The first "Northern BC Big Bore Shoot" was held last year in Hudson's Hope. 470Mbogo, Vasa, and Daryl Elder were the only participants (there aren't that many big bore gun nuts in BC!). I am hoping to attend the 2nd Annual Shoot this year. It shouldn't be a problem this time as I just accepted a transfer to those northern climes, and will be moving shortly.

Mickey, the front end view really puts into perspective what you are dealing with in those rifles. It's almost too much to comprehend. Great photo artistry! [Big Grin] And great guns.

Hi Mickey,
If your ever coming to the Vancouver area I'm only an hour and a half away. The area that I live in is a wide open shooting ground. Just head up the mountain and go. I'm heading south on Feb 15th and will be back about Mar 4th. If your trip up is before of after those dates and you would like to do a wack of shooting just send me an e-mail. I would have to get a digital video for the fun.
Take good care,

I am not sure when I have to be in Van yet. I have some business to attend to. I think I will be there in April for the BC SCI Banquet though, not sure of the date. The shoot in Hudsons Hope sounds like fun. I don't know how many rifles I could bring as I still have to take the FAC test. What is the date?

Hi Mickey,
I didn't even know that they had a BC SCI banquet. What is the date and location? The shoot we had just happened as I was working up in Chetwyn and got together with Vasa and Daryl but it should happen again with more participants. There is no fixed date it's more of a lets organize it and do it thing. We could even organize it for Prince George oor Quesnel. They do have a nice range in Hudsons Hope though. There we can shoot out to 300 meters and take stuff that blows up etc. without a problem. I know Canuck would like to shoot and my friend Chris also.
Take good care,

It is in April, I believe. I will try and pin it down better. It is at a motel/convention center in Delta, just S. of the tunnel. Country Inn? On the North, East? of the Freeway.

If you get into Vancouver, go to Italian Sporting Goods and ask.

Hi Mickey,
That's at the Tsawwassen ferry turn off just past the tunnel, I know it well. I go to Italian Spoting Goods any time I'm in Vancouver also. Keep in touch I should be around in April so try to plan some extra days after your convention.

Nice pair of big bore BPC doubles. What is the bore diameter of the 8 bore?

Are you sure that is a 700 NE in case in the muzzle?

Mickey1,

Could we get close-ups of the actions?

Could you post a close-up of the bolting system. There have been several discussion about the difference in the bolting/bites of the Jones and Purdey systems. Most of the guys here understand or have seen the Purdey. If you could post a picture of the Jones system from one of those two rifles, well you know a picture is worth a 1000 words.

What a lovely pair!

With both weighing 17 lbs, mate, you need two gun bearers.

Check out the cartridge. Wow. How many of those fit in your pockets?!

waste of gravity (toad)... (which is pretty durn funny if you think about it)

I zoomed in with the browser OPERA (the 0 key on the keypad, and 6 takes you back) .. it reads 700 nitro.

Now, before you can ever post again, let's see pics of YOUR rifles, posted by YOU

This certainly promises to be an interesting weekend. [Big Grin]

The original deal was:

I want closeups showing the makers names with a post-it note saying "these pics are for you 2 bore" . Do the same thing with the bores and cartriges in the breech. Love to see some pictures of the roughly 400 buffalo (both water and cape) that you have dispatched in your big game hunting career. Oh, by the way, if you are indeed this great white hunter, I apologize to you, but why have you not published a book for all these ding dongs to read?
2 bore

You renigged on that deal as I thought you would. Boy would I like to play poker with you. [Big Grin]

Well here is the new deal.

I post the pictures of the action, like you suggested. Plus I put in something that makes it clear that these are my rifles.

You then apologize to Nickadu for being 'incorrect' [Big Grin]

I don't want you to leave the forum, because like I have said previously, you are great fun and you don't have any honor anyway. You are only trying to get the respect that you lack in the rest of your life.

OR

You, tell us all who really owns the rifles, because you said that you know, and I will leave the forum, forever.

I do have one admission though. You are right that is not really a 700 H &H cartridge in the bore. I had Jim Bell make me a special 45-70 cartridge with the 700 headstamp. [Wink]
