<71 Win> |
I just bought my first 375H&H in a M700 BDL SS. This is also my first M700 rifle. Was wondering what you guys thought about this rifle and this caliber.

The caliber is absolutely WONDERFUL! Don't know if you reload or not, but if you do, keep it within it's historical bounds and it will serve you as well as it has served the umpteen thousands of satisfied users since 1912. Be prepared for the entire spectrum of comments from "GREAT" to "A real POS" about the M700, depending upon the poster's individual preferences. How heavy is your M700? If below about 9 or 9.5 pounds it will thump you pretty good. If the factory recoil pad is fairly stiff like the one on my M700 .388 and .300 Win. Mag. you might think seriously of replacing it with a Pachmayr Decelerator.

If you put on a Decelerator, the rifle can weigh as little as 7 lbs., without being a near-death experience. If you shoot it enough, you'll get used to the recoil.

Great gun and great caliber. The M700 is an excellent action and the .375 a truely excellent cartridge. Make sure you break it in properly. Remember to Clean it after every shot for the first 20 with Sweets and if you see copper fouling at the muzzel. Use a bore guide and JB it. Properly broken in it should shoot <1 inch groups at 100yrds. The only thing wrong with the BDL SS is the cheap aluminum floorplate. Mine kept opening on me in recoil. I finally dumped it and put in a steel one. Good luck and let us know how it shoots.-Rob
