Does any one down load your .375H&H?

By that I don't mean squib loads. But rather a bullet less then 300gn and not at 2500fps.

Maybe a 250-270gn bullet @ 2000 to 2200fps? Not full power, but usable power. Do You use cast or jacketed bullets.

To be used for walking in the sagebrush after Jackrabbits or stalking groundhogs or calling Coyotes.Maybe even Whitetail when you know the ranges aren't going to be all that long.

Keeping muzzel blast and reciol moderate. To be able to use the gun more and for a wider range of shooting. Rather that the occcasional
big game hunt or just punching paper.

I often load the 265gr cast gaschecked bullets, used in .38-55s, in my .375H&H. My favorite load is 18gr of BlueDot powder. However, this isn't a max load. The Lyman loading book also has a number of loads that meet your velocity requirement.
A daredevil grandson decided he wanted to take a mule deer doe with that rifle. He got it and the cast bullet went through both sides of the chest.

prof242,

What's the muzzel blast like with that load?

I'm not overly worried about muzzel blast. Just wondering as compared to full power load.

I've been using Speer's 235gr RN's with SR4759 powder, 29.0grs in my rifle. Accurate, low recoil, 1600 fps. And, a lot of fun to shoot! I'm sure it would work just fine on a whitetail if it had to.

Good info.
I'm not "worried" about the recoil from a .375.
It's just that for an afternoon of shooting in short sleeves, full bore loads are more then needed.
Out playing in the sage brush. Smiler

I have a very accurate load with Hornady 220 gr FP's and 5744 powder. No recoil to speak of. I haven't chrony'd but I'm sure they would do in a whitetail or hog in short order. Bob

I used hornady 220s with H4227 for an easy shooting load. The load is listed in the hornady manual along with a few other reduced 375 H&H loads. If I remember right the load was doing about 2100 and was very gentle to shoot.

Allen,
Muzzle blast is almost nonexistent compared to any normal factory cartridge, no matter what caliber.

When I had a 375H&H I was given a load (thanks Mike!) that consisted of... 220gr Hornady FP, 39.0 gr AR2205 (H4227) and WLR primer. My rifle prefered 41gr of powder to stop the sooty necks and backing out primers. Gave me 375Win ballistics and shot 2" lower and inline with my 300gr working load.
Cheers...

Do you use a filler in conjunction with load? I have shot 30 grains with extrordinary accuracy in my .375's. But best with some poly ticking.

I haven't used a filler in any light loads in the 375. Judging from your experience, I might just give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Loaded some 350gr bullets and instantly shrunk my groups to 1" or so at 100 yards (from 5" with 250 gr practice loads).

Kevin Robertson thought the twist rate isn't good for lightweight 375 bullets. I think he was right.

That was fun Smiler

Here's more than a plinking load.
155 gn KJG bullet behind 73 gn Relaoder 10X
This gives a MV of 3300fps and due to the monometal construct of the bullet super penetration.

See the website http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Englisch/375H&H.htm
Recoil of a 30-06, 2" high at 100yds gives an effective MPBR of 265 yds. 1/2" group at 100yds.
What more could you ask for.

Mark
