Greetings, Big Bore fans. I need some advice about .458 Lott brass. My Bell brass has been developing the dreaded bright ring, with the easily felt indentation inside the case, after 3 or 4 loadings. Ring is about 1" up the case. Is this normal? I'm not loading them excessively hot (I think). 2250 with H-4895, 500 gr. old cheap Hornady softs. I'm loading Hornady brass now, but have not fired any of them 3 times yet. Anyway, advice and/or speculation is appreciated. I'm going buff hunting in August, and the last thing I need is a case coming apart. I asked a similar question back in 2002, but I've since been more diligent about trimming and trying to minimize working the brass. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Thanks, Pertinax

I've gotten five out of Hornady in the past, but didn't push it. I loaded fresh brass for my'05 hunt. I wouldn't take brass I have loaded a bunch of times on a hunt, it's too small an expense not to take fresh brass. I got 2250 fps with Hornady brass, bullets and 86.2 gr of W748 and I used a drop tube to make sure it didn't compress.

I am using Hornady Brass For my lott. I've only fired those twice. Am waiting for warmer weather. I am using imr4320 For powder 85 gr.

Belted case, full loads, and high pressure rounds rule of thumb, 4-5 reloadings. It does not negate close inspections between each reload. "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"
