I just got off the phone with a gal at MRC. Their phone number has changed. It is now 406-756-4867. Apparently, they have moved into a new building. She told me that they have around 180 chrome moly PH actions put together. They are in the process of testing and additional ten or so. IF THE TESTING GOES OKAY, they will start shipping chrome moly actions within the next six to eight weeks. Sometime ago I ordered a chrome moly action with a "standard" bolt face. I ordered the standard bolt face because I wasn't sure what cartridge I was going to put in it and was thinking that I could open it up later if need be. Seems like a natural for a .505 Gibbs. Anyone else have any suggestions? Dave, I currently have 6 ordered. One will be a 700 DA (AKA 700 HE) Since I've gotten fairly good at making switch barrels I will be doing a SB on the 505 Gibbs case Probably 458, 475, 505, 510 (for bullet selection) and 550. I will do a SB on a 600 OK case I did this rifle before but it was my second atempt at a sb and didn't turn out as smooth as I would have liked. Not sure but may use the 600 OK-3 which is a longer case as I have 600 cases. The regular 510-600 got near 50bmg balistics. I've taken the 600 down to 375 which is plain stupid (the throat was gone in 25 shots) but hell it was fun. Maybe a 475, 510, 550, 585 and 620. I'm not totally decided on the others but I can see a SB on the Rigby or Laupa case 375, 416, 458, 475, 510. I already have a SB on the large WBY case. So the others are up in the air. I would look at the 470 M'Bogo really hard. IMHO it's the best all around big bore for a large bolt action. There is the 500 A2 and the 550 Mag and don't forget the 550-505 Gibbs but for the ultimate big bore I would have to go with the 600 OK. You can load it to feel like a 30-06 or to knock you on your ass levels. If it wasn't such a big action any of Jeffe's AR line are hard to beat but a total waist on a 4 plus inch action. I had an accident a while ago and shooting the bigger bores is out of the question for me at least for a while but I still love to build them so I'll keep doing just that. Whatever you decide make a steady date with it and take it out shooting whenever you can and just have fun. | |||
