I just got word that Ralph Martini and Mr Hagn will start building my custom 458 Lott on the CZ action I sent them, right after he gets back from the show in Reno.Martini thinks that the three position safety is a good idea.I am really excited about the whole thing. If I am lucky maybe I'll shoot a lion with it like mrlexma.

I am glad you gentlemen appreciate a fine rifle and extensive custom work.

I had to find a mentally disturbed gunsmith to do the job, but fortunately they are not in short supply. clap

Guys

Thanks for the compliments on my rifles - I'm glad you like them. I hunt with all of them. In fact I had the Brno .375 out for a fondle the other day and was toying with the idea of having the stock refinished. It was used as a pattern on a pantograph for the CZ .416 stock and sustained a lot of lines covering the finish from the stylus tracing the shape. But the more I handled the old girl the more I realised that it has that lovely patina from many hunts and much handling so I gave that idea away!! Smiler

Ozhunter, the stock on both the .375 and the .416 were made for me by an old mate who lives on the Gold Coast. I'm not sure if he is still doing any stockwork now. The .416 stock has since been finished off by Waghorn and some minor changes made.

Shootaway - The CZ action was squared up, feeding checked and smoothed, addition of the Wisner 3 pos safety, a new bolt handle (de Vries) and a custom made floorplate (de Vries again). The trigger is from AHR and the bolt removal knob has been built up and checkered.

Quarter rib and foresight by de Vries and rust blued by Bachnik in Melbourne.

As you can see it's no light weight but it's very nice to shoot.

Another pic -

Note the .416 round pointing to the Woodleigh softpoint under the skin.

Cheers.

GG, everything about it looks perfect to me. Those rough cz550s or zkks can really clean up.
Shootaway, its a magnum length.

I did not worry about weight also, especially when going for a 15 inch LOP and a 25.5 inch barrel in a less than slim profile. You bolt aligns perfect [in my opinion] to the trigger. This is something that was important to me. I love your checkering on the bolt, but I left mine smooth out of my own needs.

Thanks. Yeah, some people don't like a checkered bolt knob but I do. Maybe I've never had to cycle the bolt hard enough to notice the disadvantages - dunno!

Cheers.

Ok.
9x57 Oberndorf
8x57S Unknown make, Guild or Genschow, very light rifle
8x57S Husky, stocked with something left over when making Cewes 6,5x55 - I use it for rainy hunting days
8x57S Miller & Val.Greiss , very nice and old - peep sight, night bead, Zielvier etc - has it all
10,75x68 Emil Echoldt, very good balance
9,3x63 (yes x63) Guild rifle, made for Bastman in Stockholm before 1919, excellent rifle, perfectly balanced
.404 Jeffery, probably a Genschow, used to be a 10,75x68, but punched out to .404. Kicks like a mule. Will be restocked with a WR style stock - and a new bolt Oberndorf style.
10,75x68 Sauer & Sohn with an old Lyman peep. Perfectly stocked and balanced
275 Rigby Francotte, stocked by me (ok, a 7x57 Francotte somewhat modified..)
9,3x62 Husky stocked by me
.404 stocked by me
.500 Jeffery stocked by me
7x64 Frankonia for dusk
.375 H&H E.Kettner
9,3x57 of unknown make, strange trigger position, but shoots like dream, killed my first big game with it.
.318 WR made for Lyon and Lyon 1930 something, lovely, simply lovely.

Very nice rifles guys! I basically just enjoy the site here, but I thought I would post my humble big bore as I just got it last week. My wife and I are planning on going to Africa in a couple years and I have wanted a 375 since I was a kid reading Jack O'Connor.........so here is the rifle I picked up last week.

It is a Ruger M77 African in 375 Ruger and so far I am VERY pleased with it. Shot 20 rounds Friday before mounting the scope (Leupold 2-7) and I have to say the open sights are the best I have ever used and were zeroed perfectly from the factory. I know its not an expensive custom job, but I bought it to shoot and carry around!

I myself went the same humble way as you did and have not regretted a single minute.
Mine is also Africa bound in a couple of years.

My smith is doing a work over and I will post pictures when all is done.
So far...me in the gun shop.
