I want to have a rifle made on the mauser 98 action and instead of using surplus parts I was thinking of getting a newly made action to start.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with thier quality?

Guns and ammo posted a good review on the basic gun, but most gun mags never met a gun they didn't like. And as I will be buying it for the action I was wondering if someone had messed around with one.

Bought one for my wife. Chamber was oblong but interestingly shoots almost bugholes with mild loads and 140 grain GS Custom HV's in 7x57 Mauser.

Had holes enlarged for scope mounting and 'smith complained it was very hard receiver.

Are you referring to the rifles on the website or the one that EAA is importing into the United States?

Dear Wesley: it is my understanding that the Zbrojovka Brno Mod. 98 actually uses a recycled military 98 action (look at the thumb hole !), and not a newly made.

1: I'm referring to the ones imported by EAA, The Brno site was the only place I could find pics.

2: I'll send an email to find out if the recivers are newly made or not, I can't imagine why they would not be newly made, thumbhole or no.

3: G&A listed the EAA import at $347 suggested retail.

The rifles on the Brno website are their premium line. They are well made regarding fit and finish. I have one of the full stock 9.3's and it shoots very well.
The ones being imported by EAA are budget ones that Brno is too embarassed to list on their website. They are a matte finish.
Whether they are newly manufactured on original machinery, or are refurbished over-runs from years gone by, they are still a better choice than a used surplus action.

I too have heard that these actions are rebuilds of actual wartime actions. I think it was a magazine blurb about the rifles -- just looked through the ones I had on hand, but couldn't find it.
