Ming,
Dennis Olson is first rate and I have worked with him personally on some of our projects in the past. I've visited his shop in Plains and was more than impressed with his workmanship in the rifles that he built. Mike Kizzler is one of the most knowledgeable gunmakers out there that knows what it takes to make the big bores feed right and shoot. He too, is first rate in my book, and I got the chance to meet him at the Shot Show last year. I've heard good things about all of the people that you've mentioned except Ray Romain. Not to say that he too isn't first rate,I've just never had any dealings with him. All I can say, is if it were down to the guys you mentioned, I'd be hard pressed to choose between Dennis Olson or Mike Kizzler for your project.

Ming, Ditto what Triggerguard said, Dennis Olson rechambered my friends 458 Win to 458 Lott and he did a great job, his rifle feeds the 458 Lott rounds perfectly.

I've known Mark Penrod for around ten years or so. Mark is a master metalsmith in the best-quality tradition of Tom Burgess and Steve Heilmann. He is an innovator, artist, and a perfectionist from the classic school. Mark has superb tooling and gauges, and he does incredible chambering and action work. Penrod is also a rifleman who competes in the Super Shoot every year, so he understands what accuracy means. His metalwork has been stocked by some of the most famous stockmakers in the business. Everything he does is first-rate, and he's surprisingly reasonable for what you're getting.

Thanks guys for the info. All comments are greatly appreciated. I have talked to Dennis Olson recently about a couple of projects and he seems to be very straightforward and honest. I will give him a call again hopefully soon.

In the past, I usually talk to a gunsmith and then send him the work without doing a thorough research. Unfortunately, I have been burned a couple of times so nowadays I will try to be a little smarter and do more research before spending my hard earn money. You guys are great with all the knowledge and experience. Cheers! Ming

Ming,

I'd like to second Allen's recommendation for Mark Penrod. Allen turned me on to Mark last year. I had him go through my pre 64 .375. for accuracy. Mark did an excellent job in my inexperienced opinion. He also entertained my naive questions in a very polite and professional manner.

His prices seemed quite resonable, as well.

I will use Mark again.

Take Care,

-Steve

Fireball221,

I am not sure what are you talking about but I did have an incident with my 454 Super Redhawk ejecting a spent primer under recoil. I have not had that problem since I stop using Hornady factory ammo. Cheers! Ming

Dennis Olsen recently agreed to take on a project for me on short notice after another gunsmith let me down. I have heard his work is first rate and that he is particularly good at getting big bores to feed well. My rifle is a .458 Lott that I have never been completely satisfied with. He has come up with a couple of good ideas to resolve problems with the gun that will be both more practical and cheaper than what I had in mind. I have enjoyed dealing with him. He has been very straight with me.
