Want a fun 50 cal bolt action repeater that can use BMG slugs? Or how about a nice African game rifle on a standard length mauser action? Check out http://members.amaonline.com/firepower/html/50bmd.htm

I had been looking for something that would fire BMG bullets but in a 'hunting' style rifle. I started out with a .416 Rigby cut to 2.1", but headspacing on the case mouth was a no-no. After a while, I ran across this web site and was very interested in the BMD short round. Well, I am having two built. One on the Sako TRG-S stock & action (former 30-378) and the other on a Mauser reciever. The mauser should be completed in about 3 weeks and the Sako in about 2.5 months.

I look forward to chambering a loaded round tipped with a BMG bullet directly from the magazine. It will fire a 750gr A-MAX at just under 1600fps (which will stay supersonic beyond 1000yds) or send a 535gr Woodleigh SP at just over 2100fps.

I really enjoy shooting my BMG, but it is big & heavy for regular trips to the range. The BMD fit my bill for shooting my 'fun' ;-) BMG bullets in something lighter than 30lbs. I'll keep you guys informed when I get it to the range.

Your future posts on this 510/460 Short should be interesting. Thanks in advance.

Lessee ... got this silly Weatherby Mark V 30-378 that needs rebarreling to something interesting ...
