I have a new CZ550 Magnum in .416 Rigby that came with cross bolts from the factory. The rep also told me that it is bedded. Has anyone have any experience with the newer 550 Magnums that comes with cross bolts, are they still prone to stock splitting. Any info will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to AR. The purpose of crossbolts in a rifle stock are to add strength and prevent cracking of the stock during recoil. Same with bedding. You shouldn't have to worry. Shoot it and enjoy. I've run about 130 rounds thru my CZ .416 Rigby and there is no sign of stock splitting. Pretty accurate, too. Karl Evans

You guys are luckier than I am. After about 40 rounds my newer .416 split from the barrel lug to the action lug. My suggestion is to check the tightness of all the screws, which I always do, then watch carefully. Maybe feel safe it's all ok after 150 - 200 rounds. Once replaced and the new stock well bedded, the rifle is everything that can be expected from a factory rifle. If the rifle is out of the custom shop it's probably ok. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. This is a plain factory rifle and not custom. I know that CZ have started cross bolting the rifles from factory after many incidents of the stock splitting. I wanted to know if they got it right as I have seen may variantions, bolts thru the wrist, one bolt on some two on some, behind and ahead of the magazine etc. The rep told me that they also bed them but I am not sure as I have not taken the gun apart. I am assuming it is glass bedding if it is bedded at all at factory.
