Does anyone make a FMJ or solid WFN style bullet for handloading in a 375 H&H?

Not that I know of but the gentleman that welcomed you to the forum (Gerard) makes some of the best solids on the planet.

Welcome to the board..

GS Customs in RSA (above post) and North Fork Tech. in Glenrock, Wyoming, both make a flat nose solid for the .375..Both are excellent performers on Buffalo and elephant..Barnes makes an almost flat point.

Thanks for the input and I'm glad to be here. I realize there are some very fine accurate designs, but I guess I'm thinking of more of a pure stopper. I really like the design of the Bridger Banded Solids shown in the thread for the 12ga.FH.

If you find a pure stopper in 375 please let us all know about it.

FYI, the GS solids and the North Fork solids with large meplats will out penetrate most any other solid on the market, thus they are a better stopper, not a pure one. If you want to compromise a little use the TBS solids. As Will stated above, and I agree, there is no such thing as a 375 stopper, you need to go to a 45 caliber or larger to use the words "pure stopper"

I've read and studied the various technologies in bullet making today, and would like to know, from a fairly objective perspective, if the older gilding clad steel jacketed lead cored FMJ (a la Hornady et al) really performs so poorly compared to the current monoliths w/ or w/o flat points, driving bands etc?

Although my experience is limited to 416 rigby w/ 350-400 grn softs and solids in use on cattle (don't ask...), I expect there is a decent correlation to game of similar size.

I have not used any monos at all, and have found that a basic 416 RN FMJ at 2400fs (from 25-100 yds) will penetrate about 40-48" of live cow-several failed on major bones (failure meaning deformed and did not penetrate through the vitals, but all were fatal within a few minutes.

Most modern solids will do just fine, ie the Woodleighs, Hornady's etc. The older (60's, 70's and earlier) conventional steel jacketed solids didnt have a thick enough jacket, and there was a tendency for tumbling and bullet failure.
Modern monolithic flat point solids are the best in terms of straight line penetration because of their reduced tendency to tumble (shoulder stabilized by flat meplat) and supercavitation.
Both NF and GSC are awesome; I have personally seen approx 8 feet of penetration with a 500 grain GSC flat point .505 @ 2350 fps.(heart shot on ele exited opposite side, however much penetration that is)
I have not used the barnes banded solids because of their hard brass construction, which is hard on rifling, IMO.

I just bought some of the Barnes 270 grain Banded solids (the 300's don't shoot worth a damn in my gun). What's the definition of "WFN"? These are flat.

The new Barnes feature a flat nose with a rounded shoulder. The North Forks and GS Customs are truncated cone designs with sharp near 90* shoulders.

Big difference. Plus they are driving band bullets with many bands. The grooves between feature adequate room between to accomodate the material displaced from the bands by engraving.

Big difference.

The "problem" is if they are "different," how much different and how are they different?

North forks, etc. my be sexier but how much difference does it make in penetration, knock down effect, or "killing" power?

WFN? My guess would be "Wide Flat Nose".

Now here is my question: The Barnes WFN bullets pictured above by Fjold, are the grooves in the bullet shank supposed to be filled with ALOX lube like a cast lead bullet or moly plated?

Nope, they are supposed to be empty.

Will,

It looks to me like the flat nose on the Barnes is not as wide as on either GS Customs or North Forks. Don't have any to measure and compare though. Also, I do not know if the "shoulder stabilization works on rounded shoulders. Time will tell I supose.

I like the driving band bullets though.
