Gents, in an earlier post last month I read some Ruger bashing about this rifle. I don't recall the exact words but it was not positive. Yesterday I was able to inspect this rifle at my local gunsmith's shop following some custome work. I assure you, from my experience, this is a gorgeous gun, with excellent workmanship through and through. I would not hesitate to buy one, and some day probably will.

I agree with you 100%..Where in the world can one get a integral quarter rib, barrel band front sight and swivel in a big bore for that kind of money..Add some very nice Circasian walnut to that and it is one heck of a deal....Some folks are talking when they oughta be listening.

I have one in .375 and it shoots better than it looks. The quality of the wood in the stock is the best in my safe including some custom guns from Jager's.

Its wery comforting to hear...
Beeing a Ruger fan for years I have nothing to complain about so far.

If I remember right some of the bashing was about the design of the recoil lug arrangement in regard with difficulties with bedding.
But is bedding really nessesary if the rifle shoots right and true ??

Having worked with one, I agree they are well worth the money. The one I worked with was also extremely accurate with a nice piece of wood. The only thing I can fault is that in 375 it is a bit to heavy. Even with that, if the owner of the 375 I worked with ever decides to sell it, I will buy it.

I believe the weight works in it's favor for a caliber such as this. Though it's hefty, it is balanced correctly for the caliber and task at hand--slightly muzzle heavy. However, I felt it balanced better in my arms than did the M70 SS in .375, also a fine gun.

Damn!! I wish you guys wouldn't talk this way. You pushed me over the edge....I just lost control and called in an order for the Ruger #77 .416 Rigby. It's mostly Ray's fault. Jeez...now I gotta go to Africa!

PhilR,

That's a shame.

I have a NIB Ruger 77 RSML MKII in 416 Rigby for sale.

I've been told the RSMls are somewhat rare since they have a much larger frony receiver.

Also, the gun doesn't have the warning on the label.

If you change your mind on the one that you just ordered, let me know.

Ray has seen the pictures of my gun.

Plus Albany is only ~100 miles from my house in PA. I could meet you in Newburgh.

PAWildcatter,
Thanks for the offer but mine's on its way from Jerry's already(I have a FFL). Ruger has a note on their web page indicating that the Express & Magnum rifles will be available with the nice Circassian Walnut only until the supply runs out. Seems like a good time to buy.

PAWildcatter,

Ruger has indeed made the RSM and the RSML currently in .375 H&H and 416 Rigby. But my understanding it has nothing to do with the reciever size.

The original RSM in 416 had a .850 diameter barrel (the 375 has/had a .750" barrel). The RSML .416 Rigby now uses the same .750 barrel diameter of the 375 H&H, thus RSML for "light" barrel.

Either way you will like your Ruger.

Ruger's web page shows the current production Model 77 MKII .416 Rigby as RSM with a 23" barrel and 9 3/4lb weight. My supplier however shows it on inventory as RSML.
