Dr BMauser conversion.
Hi
I want to buy a couple of surplus Mauser rifles, to customize. But I don't know which one to look for. Does anyone have a sugestion and what is a fair price.

schromfSamco global has Persian 98/29 for sale. These are decent actions and a pretty good buy.
They also have 98K's which are less interesting but I think a tad cheaper.

Toomany ToolsYou usually can't go wrong with VZ-24 actions. Some consder them to be the best value available today as basis for custom rifles.

RobgunbuilderDepends on what you want to build. Generally early mausers are ok for 30-06 class cartridges. Many of them however, will develop headspace problems with magnum cartridges. This is why Rigby stopped making .416 Rigby's on M98's and why Weatherby quit using FN's. The VZ24 as others have said seems to hold up the best with really big bores. What ever you do look at the action locking lugs and make sure they show no evidence of being set back.-Rob

I'd far prefer post war FN actions but the VZ-24 is a superb action and rifle.
