when I started my 600 ok my father said to me what in the hell do you want with a rifle that big?! How often will you hunt with it.
I asked him why do you need a 1930 ford with a 427 bigblock in it?
Toys man every boy needs his toys. I have a nice 1950 harley I also have a newer one that I do most of my traveling with.
As a side note when my 600 is finished i will carry mine to hunt I carried my 458lott all season for deer when i owned it.

I don't classify myself as a big bore shooter at all, but I've hunted rabbits with anti-tank guns. Why? Because they were there.

Was it a waste and a lot of trouble? Sure. Was it fun? Yep.

Most people who have several guns don't bother to match the "ideal caliber" for the game involved.

Tonto,

I see no reason to own a rifle like the 600 OK if you aren't going to hunt with it!

Andre,

I can appreciate the recoil statements. I limit myself to 250 yards +/- with the BIG HAMMER. The medium bore (416 Rigby) is for the longer shots (400 yards, my personal limit).

Jeffeosso,
Have you hunted with your 500 Jeffery? For that matter have you hunted with the 458 Winnie? If not, why not?

MacD37,
Your comments about weight make a great deal so sense. However, I cannot remember ever "feeling" the kick of a rifle, all the way up to a 577 NE 3" (11.5 pounder, way too light) when hunting. Personally, I prefer not to carry a rifle which weighs over 11 pounds, which has limited me to the 505/510 bore.

700,
I know that you are one of the VERY few (possibly only one) of the posters at AR that has hunted with a rifle OVER 0.475" bore diameter. Your reasoning for using the big ones is in direct line with my own.
