If any of you ever come accross a CZ589 o/u double rifle in .458 win Mag( called the STOPPER by CZ), you have just discovered the holy grail of Cheap doubles! It's a take down design also, so it will fit in a small gun case along with your 12X12X 30-06 scoped drilling for the perfect AFRICAN TWO RIFLE BATTERY! I found one at a local gunshop for 3K and got interested due to it's light weight. 8.1lbs. It dawned on me that by simply grinding off the belt cutter on my .458 Lott reamer( piloted) I could simply hand ream the thing to .458Lott. Took about 1/2 hr including chamber polishing. I then loaded some Lott ammo and went to the range. Surprisingly, it shot a 3 inch group at 50 yrds(6 shots-4 in 1.5 inches) OFFHAND! Recoil was stout but surprisingly mild considering the gun weight.Extraction and Ejection were perfect. The extractors have clever spring loaded plates in them that clip under the case head and must add considerably to reliability of extraction. The only thing I did not like was that the ejectors are high and the lower chamber is awkward due to the o/u design ,thus, a fast reload will take a bit more practice than with a SXS double. However, given the power and weight of this gun if it proves reliable( I will determine this myself-after all it's my life on the line), it just might be a near perfect double for long treks after ELE or Buff. Another option I'm CONSIDERING is further reaming it to .458 Ackley for more versatility. If I can buy another set of barrels for it from CZ, I think I could pretty easily make a ultra lightweight .470NE out of it! Rob, I probably would do as you say if presented the opportunity. Once upon a time I grabbed a Searcy-Ruger O/U in .338WM and 20 guage "Just Because." Searcy has made some .470 NE and 12 guage O/U's from Ruger Red Label's too. You really ought to be ashamed of yourself though for putting such ideas in our heads. Bad Robert!

I have seen them in the CZ catalog, but not in the flesh. Good job! Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;

Half a dozen or so were imported, good luck finding one. There are some Brno 'Super Express' SL O/U guns out there so one may come across one. Hey, you just took that "Stomper" out of proof, way not to go dude!

If CZ still has them available, I'd like to arrange to buy a boat load of them. I proofed mine today with 10 approximately 80KPSI loads( as per quickload )off the ol tire! Extraction was still flawless and it appears to still be in one piece. I shot it off the bench this time and the regulation is amazing. A true 1 inch group at 50 yrds!!! This is really a very very nice gun. If you guys can find one Get IT!-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!
