I need some information about the Kodiak 45-70 double rifle. I recently handled one and like it. I have heard that with double rifles the load it is regulated for will be stamped on the barrels. I did not see any on the one I looked at. How can I find out what bullet weight to use? What kind of accuracy should I expect at 50 yds., 100 yds.

Thanks

DPM, the Pedersolis are not stamped with the regulation load anyplace on the rifle. In fact, very few were ever so stamped, but many were stamped as to the "PROOFING".

The pedersolis are regulated with 45-70 Winchester 300 gr factory ammo. I happen to own two of these rifles, and though they were regulated with the 300 gr factory ammo, they both shoot quite well with 405 gr factory, as well as my handload with both 400 gr Speer FN, and the Barnes 400 gr soft point with a .035 thick jacket. These hand loads where loaded for my Ruger No1, at 55.5 grs IMR3031, CCI200 primer, Win brass, with either of the 400 gr bullets above. They worked fine in my rifles, and placed four shots, two from each barrel in a 2.5" group @100 yds, right on the sights.

CAUTION:::::::: Here, be careful not to try the following load in a 45-70 case!!!

The pedersoli rifle is a very strong double, and one of the ones I own, has been re-chambered to 458RCBS, which is a "WILDCAT" made from HDS 45 basic brass. The case is 2.75" long, and has a case capacity of 100.13 grs of water. My rifle regulates with a 400 gr bullet with a load 64.0 grs of IMR 4064 behind a 400 gr bullet. This is a load for use with a "500" gr bullet, but is perfect for the 400 gr bullet in a double.

DPM,

I have one and it regulates with Winchester and Remington 300 grain loads to under 2 inches at 50 yards. I just tried some Garrett 435 grain +P loads and it will print them in a 3 inch group at 50 yards with no signs of stress or pressure. The left barrel is dead on and the right barrel is 2.5 to 3 inches to the right. I should have tried them at 100 yards, but didn't have the time.

I have really enjoyed my rifle and have taken 2 deer with it last season. I hope to use it on some feral hogs with Mac next weekend in Texas. 5 of us with be chasing hogs with double rifles and swapping lies around the fire. I will report the results of the hunt and the performance of the ammo when I return. If the results are good, I hope to try this combination out on an Eland and/or Wildebeest in June.

Hey guys thanks for all the great info. I hope to have a new one by the end of March. I do have one question for MacD37. Why did you rechamber to 458RCBS? Why not 45-90 or 45-120?

Thanks again
