The younger generations infatuation with hi power scopes still amazes me to no end, but whatever blows ones skirt up, its fun and games and your dollar... My favorits hunting scopes are 3X fixed Leupolds, 1x4 Leupolds, 1.5x5 Leupolds, I also have a 2.5 Leupold Alaskan that was made for a couple of years in the 1990s as I recall and I love it.... Big scopes? I have a 2x7x33 on my 300 H&H, and a 3x9 on my varmint rifle... I have never felt any great need for any scope bigger than 4X, the longest shot I ever made was with a 3X and I cannot recall one single instance wherein a good 2.5X scope would not have surficed to do the job... I have however been in a position or two with a Cape Buffalo and one with a elephant wherein anything larger than a 3X would have given me great grief..and I have seen some real problems and more than a few instances with folks that can't remember to keep the power ring down low on a high power varible. Bottom line is a big game animal is just that "big" and you can get a great sight picture on any of them at 1000 yards if you need to, but please don't attempt the shot, just look at em!! Just an old curmudgeons take on the scope and todays hunter.

Well, if I could ever afford africa I could rescope it, and I plan on using quick detach so I can still use open sights. I do know where there are new Leupold 2.5x for 179, but don't have the extra money to do that. I might just throw the 6x on there. I have so many that needs something done it is hard to decide. thanks guys for all the input. I agree that for my area it would be fine. And most of my shots would be under 100yds. Red
