Would like to hear from anyone who took Cape buff, lion, etc. with this caliber...handloads or Hornady loads?

I shot an extremely dangerous 4-point whitetail with mine. Weighed about 130 dressed but the Ruger Alaskan still did the job with just 1 shot! Guess I got lucky he didn't charge.....

I wouldn't advertize that experience - I think the legal minimum caliber for whitetails in that area is .40

Oh, you are correct - it is .600. Good thing I am getting the 600 OK in time for whitetail season in the Catskills!

Maybe I shouldn't have but it was him or me. He was only 30 yards away and closing fast (at least 1 or 2 steps every couple of minutes) so I had to make a life or death decision. luckily I came out on top but it could have gone either way. I can only hope that the authorities understand the danger I was in and that I had no other choice.

With that kind of charge, at that distance and speed - well who could argue? You're not really Mark Sullivan, are you? Wink If so, I'd like to order the DVD now thumb

Shoot guys....

If your recommending + .40's for Florida deer, what the hell am I supposed to use on the deer up here?
I guess my .308 is a bit of "under kill". Big Grin

Don't know about Alberta, but the .375 H&H was very effective in Saskatchewan...

From all the reports, it's rather obvious that the Ruger is still a North American caliber. Roll Eyes
