Got the new baby together (AR15)

browningguyGot the new baby together (AR15)
Well I finally got the new baby put together tonight, had to wait for the flattop riser. It's a DPMS lower with an Alexander Arms Upper in .50 Beowulf.
I've put an Ace skeleton stock, Tapco riser, and a Tasco Pro Point on for now. I'm figuring for Hog hunting that will be the setup, with it's trajectory it's probably a 100-125 yard gun for me. I'll probably add a Mccormick drop in trigger next, the factory DPMS unit I bought isn't exactly smooth.

PerforatorHow much does it weigh with ammo? Will it be a convinient walk-around gun?
Congressional power is like a toddler with a hammer. There is no limit to the damage that can be done before it is taken away from them.

browningguyI haven't weighed it yet, but I want to guess it's around 8 lb.s with 1 mag of ammo and sling.

PerforatorI thought about doing the Beowulf conversion for my AR but opted for the Ruger Deerfield Carbine in 44mag for now. Give us a shooting report as soon as possible.
Good Luck.

BusMaster007WICKED.
I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate seeing an AR15 in this section...
.50 is .50, but with the AR it's REPEATABLE!

Aren't you just waiting for the "CRF" crowd to appear and tell you how you can't possibly hunt "ALASKAN CAPE BUFFALO" with that gun...?
Geez. I am.

GeorgeSbrowning guy,
Have you shot the gun yet? It looks like it would be a good pork-pounder (with a better sight on it, of course).

BusMaster007,
Are you even aware that there is no such thing as an "ALASKAN CAPE BUFFALO"?

tiggertateSure there are, George. Its just not fashionable to shave them in Alaska.

That's nice, Browninguy. I have a 16" 458 SOCOM and love it.

browningguyNo, won't get to shoot it until this weekend, agreed that I'll have to put a better sight on it some time, but this is what I had in my parts box. Acutally I use a cheap red dot on my .223 (Keltec) and it's pretty decent out to 100 yards.
By the way, I do have a crf (Mauser) in .458 Win. for hunting the exotic Unshaven Alaskan Cape Buff.

Dago RedEven though it isn't a mauser derivitive you CAN use it for either of the Cape Buffalo, you just CAN'T TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN!

ASS_CLOWNThat set-up you got yourself there oughta beat you up pretty well. BTW, I would definitely recommend against using the 50 Beowulf against any bovine.
Have fun.

NO. I'm a complete idiot...

YES. Are you aware that 'CRF' guys can't tell the difference between Alaska and Africa?
It's a dig on the Mauser Crowd, who can't seem to answer a question about another action, animal, or location in the world without equating it to "CRF! AFRICA! CAPE BUFFALO!"

That was in a different thread...

browningguyYep, I'll bring it up this weekend to shoot, only two boxes of very expensive factory ammo so don't go wild with it. I left the new cell phone at home this morning hence no answer. I'll have it with me tonight and tomorrow though.
Is Rusty going to come up? I've got his trophy from the API pistol shoot I need to get to him.

I was in trouble the minute I joined the Forum asking about the Browning A-Bolt and Remington 700...

tiggertateI'm kinda surprised no one's started ragging on an AR15 platform, for that matter.

Why, everyone "SHOULD" know, that this is mainly for "SOCIAL OCCATIONS". Not cape buff. It should work great on a small herd of big pigs.

17 September 2005, 09:28
browningguyNow why would anyone rag on AR platforms. My wife finally understands the "need" for various hunting tools, which includes a .50 cal. AR for pig hunting.
How far do you think I would get if she thought I was buying it for protection against alien zombies?

Allow me to stay on Topic and put an "American Way" twist on it:
Since the chances of using the AR15 in .50 Beowulf in AFRICA are next to nothing, I propose instead of a trip to AFRICA --- import the Cape Buffalo to AMERICA.
SHOOT IT.
"This is an American AR15 in .50 Beowulf.
This is a dead African Cape Buffalo.
Any questions...?"

tiggertateI'm lucky; my wife is the "Armageddon isn't near but why take a chance" type. She's always up for another way to do bad guys. I think the TV scenes of New Orleans were good for at least another year's worth of toys.
