jeffeosso"interesting".. as in "what happens when a mechinical genuis goes mad" kind of interesting

AtkinsonOnly if you have a very gentlel pack mule to carry it, two camp boys to work the action, a tough PH to shoulder it, and you only need one shot...
I'll pass, it is the answer to a non existant problem, much like installing a double action trigger on a Colt .45 ACP,......

I Bin TherbeforSaw one at the SCI Convention. Didn't feel heavy but I was so astonded at the design that I forgot to ask the weight. Bolt (?) seemed to work easily.
13 February 2008, 03:42
Tyler KempWeight it states is 5.2kg, or around 12 lbs I think. Not all that heavy at all I thought.

maddenwhI stand corrected then.
Do you get two shots beofre having to work the action... I guess it would ruin the purpose of the double if otherwise.

Tyler KempI wonder if he could do a double barrel pump shotgun? Could you imagine the joy of the rednecks?

trophyhunter5000Looks like the something for the someone who has everything…
Doesn’t their claim of six shots in twenty seconds seem little slow?

caorachIgnoring the possibility that this rifle is a answer desparately looking for a question what do those with knowledge of such things think about the "safety" aspect of a bolt action double?
My understanding, from childhood reading of books about big game hunting in Africa, was that you have a double because there are two totally seperate mechanisms for firing the round and as it is a break action you are unlikely to jam up the action when reloading. However, with this rifle it occurs to me that if you were to have the bolt jam when loading one chamber then you are likely to be unable to load the other chamber as both bolts will be "stuck."
Clearly you could always carry it with rounds in the chamber, and the web page seems keen to push this as the recommended option, but that seems a bit dodgy to me.
So, do those with experience think this is less safe than a normal double?
My take, and I've no experience of doubles, is that this seems to combine all the down sides of both a bolt and a double rather than being the sum of the positive elements of both.

D99Your behind the times. These things came out 15 years ago, and Fuchs has been making them for about 10. Szecsei was a engineer that had a whole team of CAD/CAM nerds design it. Fuchs was selected to take the gun to the next level.
Say what you will about the rifle, but your an idiot if you think it was just cobbled together from spare parts. This thing is a work of art, if you like Rembrandts it maybe be a bit of a Picasso, it's definatly not for everyone.
The last time I talked to them cost was about $50,000 for a plain one.
Not sure how accurate that price is today.
Harold Wolf did a big write up on the Fuchs double rifle about 4 or 5 issues of Hatari Times ago. Had nothing but high praise for it.
If I had the money and could own one I would own several. It's just too neat of a rifle not to be impressed by it.

PoppaWDoesn't Blaser make one of these also?

It's on their website.

GrandpasezThere is pic of a double pumpgun on the
12GA FH thread. I got literature on double bolt rifle
from inventer back in nineties while he was still in
Windsor, Ont. Neat gun as long as they didn't go
to big. Someone put badly designed big caliber
in one and the corner let loose( like I told them it might)
and unglued the gun.Ed

MacifejI doubt that would be a concern with a Blaser engineered custom Ed!!

Michael PattersonThat thing looks REALLY heavy! I like the concept though...

PeterNot being an expert, but based on prior discussions on this board, it is far from being an answer to a non existant problem!
Problem: a double gives you two fast shots and then a slow reload. A bolt action gives you 4 or 5 slightly slower shots.
What happens if you need more than two fast shots eg. the animal you and the PH shot at, is down (maybe), and another appears from the side?
Answer: a very expensive S/S double barrel repeater rifle. The concept makes perfect sense to me, although my wife would shoot me with both barrels if I ever bought one! If the weight is indeed 12 pounds, then it is lighter than my Owen 450!

.429These are 6 shooters, 2 in, 4 down. Double trigger gun, shoot two and work the bolt and get two more. AND the O/U prototype is really cool ejecting both out the right side.
Current price, plain gun S/S $65,000.
I didn't see the O/U at SCI this year but it was there last year. Last year they also had a 22 cal O/U.
