I'm having a 458 Lott built, mostly to shoot 500 grain jacketed 45 caliber bullets out of. Perhaps I am putting the cart alongside the horse, because I'd like to start loading while I wait for the rifle to arrive.
45 caliber rifle bullets are expensive.
Can you recommend a cheap 500 grain 45 caliber jacketed rifle bullet?

Henry I buy 500gr. Hornady 500gr soft points in bulk. Also 350gr Hornadys. The cheapest heavy bullets I have found are the Remington 405 gr. They work fine on game if driven 1800fps or less. I buy them at a gunshow from a company that I think is in Arkansas.

A good friend of mine just bought ammunition company. We are selling new .458 loaded ammo for $ 25.00 per 20 with the Hornaday bullet. Shoots really well out of my BRNO

Aleko Have him make us some 28ga. Fauneta shells. Westley Richards 28ga Express "Fauneta" guns were used to kill all manner of big game including zebra and moose. Surely someone can make all brass shells that take a large rifle primer.

I have seen brass cases in 12 made in Europe. I was offerd them for a great price, but didn't bought enough, then. I will take a look and see if they still makes these and if they will make 28 ga

No2,
Yup, that's the cheapest jacketed 500 grain bullet I could find too. I sure wish Hornady would start selling their old non-encapsulated FMJ RN bullets again. I saw some Hornady FMJ-RN bulets for $38/box in the Sinclair catalog. Hoping this was a box of 100 of the good old lousy non-ENC bullets, I called. Nope. Box of 50 of the new, swell ENC's. I mostly see 50 of the RN softpoints going for $22-$25. Guess that's what I'll get started with.

HenryC470 I tried some of the new ENC 500gr Hornadys in my 450 No2, it did not like them and they fouled the bore much worse than the other bullets I have used. I use the Hornady 350gr RN in my No2 for deer and pigs. It also has shot very well in 3 45/70's and in the 2 458 Win Mags I owned. I like it for hunting very well. In the No2 I drive it 2300 fps [thats where it regulates]. Just for practice, plinking, deer and pig hunting the Remington 405gr will work good as long as you do not drive it too fast. I have killed a coyote and a pig with the 500gr. Hornady soft in the No2 and it worked plenty good.

Or paper patched lead for that matter, and why not even hunt with it? Oh yeah, this is AR

PS. paper patched bullets from a place like Montana Precision Swaging would be cheap, would not lead at high speed (2200+) and you could easily make your own. Just a different sort of thought.

No doubt the cheapest .458 500s are Hornadys. I use them for practice in my Lott and save the Woodleighs for game. I have found that they shoot very close to the same point of aim from my rifle ahead of 83 grains of VVN540.
