I just spoke to Mindy at Hornady and the ammo will ship next week, finally.

I have had the Ruger No. 1 for almost 2 weeks now but no ammo. I have dies and bullets enroute also but I like to have some factory ammo as a baseline for my handloads......soon, soon...............................JJ

Is that the Tropical model or same model as 9.3x74R?

Thanks.

Oops sorry, I have the No. 1-H ( Tropical )in 450/400, the 9.3 is cataloged as coming in either 1-S medium sporter or 1-H, the heavier frame & bbl. My 9.3 is in 1-H.

One can have a 9.3 that weighs 7 1/4 lbs ( 1-S ) or 9 lbs ( 1-H )....................JJ

The box on mine is marked 1-H same as on my 405 what does that make it? My 9.3 is marked as a 1-S. Then I must have the lightweight 9.3. Haven't shot it as yet but remembering other 9.3's I've had I would have probably preferred the 1-H. I will have to try it one of these days and see. Out of brass at present.

JJ,

Where do you suppose would be the most likely/reliable source to get the 450/400 Hornady ammo without being gouged on the pricing?

Woody, I guess it depends on how long you want to wait. Hornady's price is around $110.00 per box. But thats full MSRP, I would guess I would start with Midway, then Graf & Sons, Mid-South Shooters Supply and Cabelas. I'm just not sure who will stock it. I plan on reloading for obvious reasons......................JJ

Midway says their's is coming soon and looks like solids and softs will be $74.99/box of 20. I could live with that I think until components start trickling onto the market.

I am hoping we can stir enough intrest at Redding as I think they bild a better die. They now list 470 dies and 9.3x74R as producton. I think Midway has them for about $75.00.

JJ-,
I know one that will have a Decellerator AND a mercury tube. My Chapuis SxS was a sharp recoiling little thing and it weighed about the same around 7#. I'm going to try my 450/400 with only a Decellerator to start as it seems to be exactly 1# heavier at 8#'s. They really make me want to go back to Africa just one more time.

I called Hornady and I was told they will not have dies until next year.

C&H is working on a quote for me.....

RCBS makes dies, I always have had good luck with them, is there a problem I'm not aware of ?...............JJ
