Just fondled one at a local dealer's shop. I really like the full-feeling stock design and balance of the rifle. The one thing I have to wonder about is the bolt handle being very nearly buried in the stock cutout. There isn't much ball to grab is there?

I also think it is one the weak points of the CZ 550. I wish they would put a nice knob on the end.

For the price of, and quality you are getting, having a better bolt handle installed on the CZ is money well spent, In my opinion so is a better safety.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Have the same problem with a later production CZ/BRNO ZKK 602. I'm building a surplus BRNO 98/22 into a 458 and i'm thinking of leaving the bolt handle sticking straight out as in military design-it will make a great wild hog rifle {purpose intended}! The handle can allways be changed later.

Phil,

What kind of safety do you recommend for the CZ? I like the Gentry 3-position safety on my Whitworth .375 but am open to suggestions.

I'm thinking about getting a bigger bolt handle on my .416 (something like a Model 70/Dakota 76 type) and may as well have it all done at once.

Phil, would you mind sharing what you don't like about the CZ safety?
