I just had a new 3200 bussnel mounted on my 30-06 and headed off to the range. I attempted to sight it but reach the max ajustment on my scope 8 inch below bulls eye. I purchased leupold mounts for it. Seems to me when mounted the first scope 20yrs ago I had the same problem. Is this common? do I need a shin? I'm I just unlucky with scopes? Any suggestions?

If you solved the problem 20 years ago why not use the same base and rings with the new scope? Otherwise a one piece base and a shim or two under the rear screws might help. Good hunting!

If it happened twice with different scopes and different bases then the barrel may not be true to the receiver. Shimming the rear base is the cheapest solution but looks bad to me. You could spend some money to have the front base milled a few thousndths or you could just get a better rifle. If you're the patient sort you could get a dowel of about the same dia. as the reciever and some emory cloth to sand down the front base yourself. If you modify the front base be sure to lap the rings back to true alignment with a 1" pin. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
