I've noticed that there are quite a few of us forumites in Northern California. Anyone interested in getting together for a fun shoot with bigbore rifles? I suggest a fun match at the Sacramento Shooting Center sometime in Late February. Coarse of fire to be determined, but something like four strings of three shots each. Each string is shot at 12" targets respectively at 50, 30, and 10 yards. Scoring based on a combination of accuracy, time, and BSI. Anyone interested?

l-n-b, Hey! Great idea! I will be in Alaska then. Won't be able to get off. Maybe if you get this started it will spread to a place and time where I could attend one. No postal matches. Too much temptation for BS to creep into the BSI weighted accuracy and speed scoring. Got to be official, and timed with a stopwatch. Groups measured with an established standard method. Since the targets are simulated, TKO would work as well as BSI. Of course if you had live targets, the BSI would be more meaningful. And, by golly, the BSI (Bwana Saeed Index) would be more meaningful in any case, in honor of rhe Founding Father. The BSI of the load would also have to be certified at the range too. Maybe 3 good readings off a chronograph averaged? Since the 375 H&H is a 100% rating, the scores will improve proportionally from there up. Minimum rifle will of course be the 375 H&H equivalent. How does that sound so far? ------------------

Sounds great, but at this point in time the only big bores that I have with me / together, are a pair of Ruger #1's. While this sounds like fun how do you propose to score the people like me who are obviously hampered by the single shot? Other than that you can count me in. I'm only 1 hour from Sac. ------------------

quote: You think you're handicapped shooting paper because you have a single-shot? How about when shooting nyati? Maybe a fair way to score those with single-shot rifles is to allow them a backup (PH) with the bolt gun or double of their choice.

OOOOH, now I like that idea! Or maybe if enough show up we can make up some kind of team event? That way the guys with single shots like me can have somebody with them that has a double or bolt? This is getting me way to excited. ------------------

Sounds good! Let me know the details! The cowboy action shooters in Ukiah have steel buffalo targets that could be used with cast bullets and big bores at 50-100yrds. We could then have staged Buffalo charges!-Rob

That's a long drive but it is appealing. How about one of those three day weekends for Abe or George? I should have my .404 ready by then. If not, there's always the .450. Tell me, will there be a course for each Class? Sarge

Hey fellas, are there any decent ranges up further north toward Redding? Make it easier for some of us lads in Southern Oregon to join the fun (assuming snow hasn't got I-5 closed from Yreka to Ashland). Must be something down around Oroville -- Fred Huntington country.

Perhaps some of us So. Cal. bretheren can join you and it can be an all California affair. I'm up for it.

It looks like there is enough interest, I'll see about making the arrangements. How about March 2 and/or 3, 2002 sound? I like the idea of being inclusive, so we'll make it the Accurate Reloading Bigbore Fest, and all are welcome!

[QUOTE]Originally posted by loud-n-boomer: Hi loud-n-boomer, This sounds like a great idea. If it's in March I would like to try and get down. We have a local red neck run on boxing day where everyone brings all their toys out of the closet and then we spend the day up the mountain in the snow shooting and eating Christmas left overs. It's a hoot and you get to try out all kinds of things you would like to own. I think I'll start loading now. 470 Mbogo

Sacto is probably the best compromise, but the UKIAH gun club is also a pretty reasonable place. It's easy to get to as it's off of 101, has lots of Hotels and is a very gun friendly place. I've shot my 50BMG there getting ready for FCSA meets, so Big Bores are allowed! I'm a member and would be happy to help.-Rob

I'm going out to Sacramento Shooting Center this weekend to see about setting this up. I'm thinking that maybe three classes with three catagories in each might be fun. Three Classes: Large Bore (.400 inch bore size and larger) Medium Bore (.315 to .399 inch bore) Small Bore (.240 to .314 inch bore) Three Catagories: Single Shot, Double, and Repeater. I'll work out the details if you all will help me.

l-n-b, Sounds great. Wish I could attend. This sounds like it has potential for a recurrent event. I want to see Ray take on all comers with his iron sights.
