I understand that CH4D sells the dies for the 375/338 Win Mag...I was wondering, do you need and expander die first to neck it up, or is it all-in-one die expander/resizer? My 375/338 is being built right now, and I'd like to order the dies for it to I can start building loads. Or, if anyone has used 375/338 dies they'd really like to sell, that would be sweet. Thanks.

Camp X, The die's expander ball will be tapered and will easily allow for expansion. 338 up to 375 is not bad at all. I also neck up 338 to 416 Taylor...no where near as much fun... The 375-338 is a great cartridge. You should be able to reach 2700 fps out of a 270 grainer, and that without too much "hoopla." best, bhtr

CampX, I have the CH4D dies for my own 375/338 WIn Mag and it is a one step operation to neck up 338 Win Mag brass to 375. All I do is is run the 338 Win Mag case through the full length sizer dies, trim and chamfer the mouth and start loading. Simple! Craig

Sweet, thanks for the info. Can't wait til the weather warms up....the gun range is under about 4 feet of snow and will be til the end of March. Has anyone tried the new 260 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in .375? I'm still not sold on a ballistic tip for moose/caribou/elk, but some guys around here swear by them in 300Win Mag and even 358 STA's. I do know that they can be quite accurate, and have a good ballistic coeffecient. Just wonderin'.

I have the RCBS dies for the .375/338 mag. It has a tapered expander and making cases is quite easy. FWIW, I've founf that necking down .458 Win. mag. brass works just as well and seems to be a bit easier. Either way, I found it takes a slight trimming to square off the necks. Usually it's less than .001 or .002" As I also have a .338 mag,. I use the .458 brass to insure I don't pick up the wrong ammo. Full loads are just fine for the first firing and after that the cases will be fully fire formed. I really like the cartridge and I'll bet you will as well. Paul B.

CampX - I find there is some discrepancy here. I have a set of CH/4-D dies that I bought a couple of years ago. Mine DOES NOT have a tapered expander button. If I want to use 338 brass (which I do for my nickel plated field rounds) I have to run thru a 357 mag pistol expander, then the 375-338 dies. Maybe they have changed things. As Paul B. said, going the 458 Win route is much easier. The 458 Win headstamp definately impresses the guys around the campfire more! But I can't get nickel plated stuff in 458 and I sure like it for its corrosion resistance. Here's a link to some load data I used from Phil: 375-338 / 375 Taylor Load Data [ 03-02-2003, 19:59: Message edited by: Lars G ]
