Well looking around getting .458 Lott ammo ready for next trip I stumbled upon some great deals on a closeout type situation and picked up a bunch of Federal bear claw and these hydro cup point woodleighs. Saw one writeup about Buff in NT on the web. Going to be "testing" out loads sounds like according to some reports these work. I am unfamiliar with the "cup point" but it seems like it works. Any other comments on these bullets? I will also be using Cor Bons monometal flat point solids and TSX type soft point. All 500 grains

I used some on water buffalo; mostly on standing wounded. After satisfying my curiousity about that the rest got shot up mopping up shoot-ups.

The good part is they will go through a buffalo like they aren't even there. The bad part is pretty much the same thing. You'll kill him, but short of a brain or spine hit you aren't going to impress him. Mind you, I feel that way about all the solids I've used on buffalo. Not a fan.

Interesting thanks. I'm doing the Asian buffalo thing too. I assume for a Texas heart shot that penatration would be good?

Funny, I was just thinking about this unusual bullet while talking solids with a fellow AR member this past weekend. He likes the North Fork cup points. You don't see a lot of discussion of the Woodleigh Hydro, and I was wondering how they perform.

Well the concept and design appears to be similar for all cup points. The woodleigh has a plastic nose on it for feeding. I'll shoot some buffalo and see how they perform

The cap is unnecessary for some rifles. I have used them with and without the cap.

I like solids on buffalo, they have performed for me on cull operations back when with the old std Woodleighs...but whey NF came out with the cup point and I tested them in Africa for Mike, I was sold on them for duiker to everything up to elephant on which I never used them...I would use a flat nose solid on elephant and the flat nose is Ok with me for buffalo and Hippo, but the cup point works on everything, it penetrates like a solid and expands enough to create havoc inside a buff..

I have some pictures of the recovered cup points I sent to Mike, I can send them to you if you PM me your email..

The Woodleigh Hydro's are my go to bullet for buffalo. Have used then successfully on cape and Asian buff.
Will be using them as my follow up shot on hippo, if required, next month.

Cheers,
Mark.

Yep

Shot several with them in 500 nitro.
last one was a great old bull last week in Namibia!!
Perfect on frontal brain as well as body shots.
The ones we recovered were perfect, almost reloadable again.
We actually picked up one from a side brain that went through and through and was found on the ground 10ms past the elephant!!

Can recommend them, as well as the CEB 13 flat nose solids as well.

Can be tricky to fit in M98s and even magnum actions.
Need to use low volume powders like Reloader in calibres like 404

The tips are removable. Not required for double rifles, but aid in feeding with some bolt rifles. They have no other purpose but for feeding.
