I have a rem 700 ADL in 270 win that has been made obsolete by a beautiful ruger #1 in 7x57. I'd like to come up with a project for the 270 but am curious as to what can fit in that action. I already have a 9.3x62 so i was hoping to go bigger rather than smaller.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Tim

Welcome.

With a change of barrel, magazine box and follower, you could fit a .458 Win. Mag. or any number of other rounds based on the 'standard magnums (.300 Win case)' or .375H&H case.

The case heads on the mag size cartridges are larger (.532) than your 270 win (.473) and would require some additional smith work on the bolt to open the face. I can't say for sure if the bolt face can be modified since I'am not a gunsmith.
One solution is to trade the 270 win for one of the standard mags, ie: Rem 7mm mag, 300 win mag, or 338 win mag and then move on to a larger chambering.
Sorry, I can't help you with advise for a gunsmith in La. or Tex. Good luck with your project.

I wouldn't waste a barrel job for a dangerous game cartridge on a Rem 700ADL, Push feed action! You could use that action by opening the bolt face, and re-barreling to 338 Win Mag, or if you don't want to open the bolt face,a .358 barrel could be chambered for 35 Whelen! thumb

Chief is right; I forgot to mention the opening up of the bolt face.
The .375-06 or .400 Whelen would not require any bolt face modifications and may not require changing the mag box and follower.

I would go with the 35 whelen. it's supposed to be a great cartridge for heavier game and it won't require a new bolt.

Think 9.3X64.Minor boltface work that in fact could almost be done with a dremel ( ha Ha). BIG bang for the buck.-Rob

X2. A .36 Whelen, if you will and a fine cartridge. I made one on a '98 and no bolt face work required. May have to on a 700 but, I doubt it.
