I just got some Nosler 260gr Accubonds to use in my 375 H&H. My rifle is a Ruger No.1 The Nosler book says max OAL 3.600 but when I colored the bullet with a marker and put it in an empty case its hitting the lands/rifling at an OAL of 3.850. If I would seat the bullet at 3.600 it will be .250 off the lands. Looks like for the boat tail to clear the neck down into the case I would need to have a OAL of 3.750 but thats still .150 off the lands. This seems like an excessive amount to me as in my smaller caliber rifles I typically seat the bullet .015-.020 off the lands. I've never ran into a situation such as this and not sure what to do here? I wasn't going to crimp since its a single shot. I'd appreciate some advice on what to do!

As the Nosler book says STD is 3.6 but accuracy will often be longer. I've seen some larger bore rifles with almost a full caliber jump. It is not uncommon for a bolt action magazine box to not allow a OAL long enough to reach the lands. I would set the front edge of the boattail to line up with the bottom of the neck and go shooting. Other bullet shapes might get you nearer the lands. Setting the barrel back is a major issue on the Ruger 1. Since you are a single shot you might be able to form brass from magnum cylinder brass with a longer neck. Might require extending the neck in your chamber and possibly a new die. Unless the rifle simply would not group I would leave well enough alone. Big heavy bullets often like a running start. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Agree with ramrod340. Even if the .375 H&H throat is to spec, fairly short and tight (I don't have all the throat specs memorized, just some of them, like the .375 WBY), it will let that long and pointy-plastic-tipped bullet give a long COL. The Nosler COL refers only to magazine box limits to make the ammo useable in bolt actions in general. I would start at 3.750" COL in your Ruger No. 1 with no crimp and expect good to excellent accuracy if you do your part. I do a 3.75" COL with my .375 Wby in a 3.8" CZ box, and have more throat than you do most likely. It works great. You will likely be able to get higher velocity within pressure limits with 0.15" extra cartridge length. I do in my .375 Weatherby. DRG says: "Kiss my liberal grits!"

Thanks! I was at a loss and didn't know what to do or not do? I'll just seat it deep enough to get the boat tail down into the case and not crimp it. Thanks Again!

You should be fine either way. Usually the list OAL is short due to a cannulure on the big boys, not sure on the Nosler ballistic tips. As for advice, test them with the list OAL and go from there. You may get slightly better accuracy .020 from the lands, but are you using your 375 for creedmore 1000 yd competition? John

I'm shooting a Mod 70 magzine rifle, and I alway crimp in the cannelure. I get excellent accuracy from 300 and 350 grain bullets, A Frames, Hornady Interlocks and Woodleigh PRP's. The shorter 270 Interlock pointed tip won't shoot worth a damn, but the old round nose 270 would. Higher SD on the round nose Interlock, I think and longer, so closer to the lands. 235's are a waste of time and powder.

Ok thanks for the input. I'll load some up and test them when I get some powder.

I just finished working up loads for my Ruger #1 375 H&H using 300 gr Nosler Partitions. I seated the bullets about .020 off the lands. Very good accuracy. In my single shots I have found seating the bullets out as far as possible usually has the best accuracy.

Thanks! I'll do some experimenting once I get some powder. Went to Walmart but they was out of RL15. I want to try it first and go from there. It works really good in my rifle with Swift 300gr A Frames, hope it will work just as well with the Noslers!

I've only tried RE-15 with the 350 Woodleighs and got very good results. My 300 grain go-to powder is IMR 4350. Your mileage may vary.
