I have been in horrible situations, One time when i was hunting moose in september.

I was in the forest alone whit my dog, and the dog started to bark in a thick bush, and i started to whait for the dog and the animal, then a horrible scream came from the bush and the dog was running towards me. Then i know that it was a bear, i saw the bear run from the bush 20 yards from me and when it saw me then it turn around and ran away.

What to you guys think the best rifle is in case like this, a semi automatic 30-06 or a big bore like the 585 nyati.....?

Neither, since the bear was scared witless from just a glance at you

(I am disappointed, for a moment I thought that there was some substance to these posts but, alas ...)

Forget the gun, you should get a bigger dog. A bigger dog could knock over the bear. A bigger dog could bite a bigger hole in the bear. A bigger dog would have greater recoil when it hits the bear. A bigger jaw with bigger dog gives better penetration. A bigger dog could damage more meat.

On and on and on and on and on. There is no end.

10 million sperm and YOU were the fastest????

Overkill.
You should write a book about your hunting experiences.

I guess if you planned on shooting the bear in the A$$ at 20 yards it wouldn't really make any difference on the action in my eyes least wise. Now if he was coming at you from 20 yards and you didn't have the round in the chamber already using a bolt type rifle, I would say you might get just one shot off before you had a chance to check out its smile. In a semi-auto and a round in the chamber already, perhaps 2 or maybe even 3 shots you think?

Yes, Yes, Yes !Another great post!!
Go with the 585 nyati !!
Didnt Your 460 weatherby feel like enough gun? How many bears do you have on license in your area? Or were you planning to claim self defence?
Ask Guinness book of records to print the stuff you post, it will be a best seller in the hunting world !
So how is 5th grade? Sport holliday coming up soon?
Tell us more!! Since you were out on your own, was it scary and why didnt you shoot the bear, before it run off?
Tricky angle, dog in the shooting line, or did you wake up ?

Yours truly entertained fan.

Andre mertens,

Breed is wof wof, "sklla" in swedish

jthessen,

Yes my 460 wby will work fine, but i have been thinking if i am going to buy a 585 nyati or 577 T-REX or even a 700.i like big guns....

I have so many bears i want to shoot as long as i pay for them, 500 dollar for 1 bear.

tsturm,

Do you think that you can shoot only on shoot if the bear is running at you from a bush 20 yards from you, I think the same, then it is best to have a big bore in your hands...

Overkill,
I think Andr Mertens would like to now what "ras = breed" your dog is, bark = sklla.

Your probably extremly wealthy, as any rifle in your wish list are pricey indeed, not to mention the ammo, i am whining about the price of 416 Rigby brass.
$500 a bear and no limit, sound like your sitting on a gold mine

How many square kilometres are your consession?(hunting area)
Do you own the land yourself or are you a hunting guest?
When did you get your first moose, bear?
Do you have a scope on your 460, how many more rifles do you own/hunt with?

I shoot my first moose when i was 12 years old. It was a easy shoot the moose were looking at me at about 70 yards, a singel shoot in the heart whit a 6,5 x 55 and soft nose bullet.

I dont have shoot any bear yet.

I own the 460 wby, i have a aimpoint 2x on the 460. and i load whit hornady 500 grains soft points at 2650 f/s.

I also have a 7 mm rem mag. and a 6,5 x 55.

Don't they have hunting licenses and bag limits in Sweden? We have them here in the US. Can someone who actually knows tell me how the hunting works in Sweden and Finland for that matter. I would like to know how hunting is regulated over there.

Thanks,
Kent

Gentlemen - If you really want to find out if Overkill actually resides in Sweden ask him to send an E-Mail message to you. Then, simply review the Internet server routing information attached within the message. If the message was sent from Sweden, then the routing information will verify the location of the sender. OR the web master can ping his computer when he is active on the forum. It is not easy to hide on the Internet these days. There are a lot of tools at our disposal that can rat out a troll very quickly.

For that mater, Overkill please send an E-Mail message to the following address surfdude@midsouth.rr.com. In the message line type 163.142.56.157 you do not need to forward any text if you do not wish. This is an ISP domain capture site designed to verify server routing properties. It will automatically ping your address and provide detailed routing information down to your local ISP server level. If you are actually sending messages from Sweden, it will verify that fact. However, if you are sending messages from Peoria IL pretending that you live in Sweden, you will be busted once and for all. Are you game???

The best rifle in that situation would be a 577 T-Rex on a modified 50 caliber semi-automatic action. Make sure to have it built nice and light, 10 pounds max. Remove the muzzlebreak and also remove the recoil pad so you can shoulder it faster in this emergency situation. Be sure to have a custom 5 or 6 round clip built for it and install one of those "hell fire" trigger actuators behind the trigger so the gun will empty in a maximum of two seconds. When the bear comes at you again, raise the rifle and hold the trigger down until the rifle stops firing. I guarantee both you and the bear will get knocked on your a$$es.

Overkill,

On a more serious note, the Browning BAR in mag caliber's, has been successfully modified to handle the .458 Win.
