Hi folks, my 3 lbs of IMR 4350 just showed up and I looked in my Barnes Manual Number 4 and I don't find any loads for IMR 4350. There are some loads in a "real guns" article on the CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery starting at 120g for 2415 fps and maxing at 126g at 2522 fps (oh my!) http://www.realguns.com/archives/157.htm I know there are a few 500 Jeffery / 500 A2 shooters here on AR that push 570g TSX's to 2500 fps so any suggestions are welcome. My current load of 103g of H4895 is very accurate so don't ask me why I'm pushing it lol ... I can check my copy on Any Shot You Want in the morning. I think there are 500 Jeff eries loafs in it. . My mid pressure load for my 500 A-Square was a 600 gr bullet and 108 gr of IMR 4320 . Max load is 115 gr if I remember right. . I'll check in the morning. What velocity is your 4895 load giving you. How long is the barrel? Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

If you really want to turn that Jeffery on you should try the CEB 475 gr Safari Raptor and the 510 gr Safari solid.

Always when I see a thread with the 500 jeffery I Think about that the .500 A2 does over 2550fps with 600 grain bullets. And 2550 fps with 570grain bullets in the .500 Jeffery seems hard to get. Chuck375 are you going to load to the Point that you start to see pressure signs? That would give the .500 jeffery justice.

Hi all, my rifle is a CZ 550 with a 24" 1 in 10" twist McGowen barrel. I'm getting 2300 fps or a bit more with Jamison brass, Federal 215 primers, 570g TSX and 103g H4895 OAL 3.63" no pressure signs at all. At 105g in 95 degree heat I was getting 2410 fps, but had slightly stick extraction, so backed off from that to 103g. I know I need a slower powder to keep pressures moderate and increase speed so I went with IMR 4350. So my plan is to load 3 rounds each at 120g, 122g, 124g and 126g and if I see any pressure signs back off two grains then go back and test for accuracy if I'm getting the velocities I'm looking for. Otherwise I'm happy with my current loads. I also have some 570g Swift A-Frames I want to try out, but won't push them as hard. I think 2300 fps is just fine for them. It sure seems like the 4350 powder is the best for top velocity in the 500 jeffery. I cant wait until you post the results when are you going to start loading?

I Think you should get at least 2600 fps.. I get 2500 fps with 550 grainers in my .460 wby So the .500 Jeffery should have more to give.... much more if loaded to the same pressure.

I checked the A-Square manual but it doesn't list any 4350 loads for the 500 Jeffries. Sorry. Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. Chuck, I have loaded 126 grains of Hodgdon, NOT IMR, 4350 behind 600 grain Woodleighs in my .500 A-Square. Velocity was around 2,400 fps and I did not push for more. The powder charge was rather too much compressed for my tastes. I got more speed with less powder using RL 15, and that became and is now my powder of choice in this caliber. I can easily get 2,500 fps with 570 grain Barnes bullets with this powder, generally by using between 110 to 113 grains, depending on the lot. As always, however, one must start lower and work up.
