Got it today, shot it, etc. It still has the original pad on it, which is getting replaced by a limbsaver next week (glad I had my superior shooting shoulder pad -- stung even w. that.)

B. Nagel's charges insane amounts of money for ammo, but at least they had it. (72/box for Winchester 510 gr. soft things.)

I doubt I'll be changing over to it over to Lott, as I don't think I would want much more recoil -- if I really want it, I think the RSM's weight might be needed (for me)

The bolt handle's welded on, which makes me nervous -- should I not worry about it/is there a way to get a 1 piece bolt for it?

I think I want to put a lyman adjustable rear sight on it -- will they hold up to the recoil

The front sight is a very small, thin silver bead -- does anyone make others to fit -- an XS big dot might be pretty good...

It whacked me on the cheek a bit -- neoprene pad, or something else, or learn to shoot -- leather covered pad (if there is such a thing)?

Also, the trigger guard banged up my fingers -- if I can find someone to do some quick and dirty checkering, I might have some done that wraps around the bottom of the foreend and grip -- is there a piece I can get to put more of a "shotgun" shape on the trigger guard?

Oh, and the grip cap is boogered up -- anyone make a good one to stick on there? I could commission a Texas A&M one, I guess...

i just got a 458 in whitworth, 8.5 lbs. Changed the pad and got it rebored to the lott. Honestly, i really cant tell much differnce in recoil, but i reload the lott to 2150 fps.
I am using the original sights, but considering changing the foresight to a fiberoptic dot. I wouldnt worry about the welded bolt handle.

I don't know that this one would make 8.5... feels pretty light. Given the way the sights fit, I think they might not be original -- it's a very fine blade, and an adjustable rear buckhorn.

I put a fiber-optic front on my "evil-action" in "unmentionable" caliber -- I'd look at one first -- I didn't care for it much, and it didn't help much in low light.

I'll post pics when I find my camera

Go to Brownell's or NECG and check their options on better sights.

instead of checkering, consider "stipling"... it's just random peck marks, instead of checkering...or glue-ing abrasives in the area....i have a whitworth interarms .458... i dont care for the unfinished look the bolt handle has, either... i do like the way it handles... fast, easier on me than my m70 win... less felt recoil...i have the folding leaf rear sights on it, rarely take a shot at over 80 yds....the action need slicking up..several DRSS shooters have told me about working the action open and closed... over and over to smooth it out...

I've owned some Whitworths, Interarms and Daleys and I don't know that I's be cranking them up to a Lott, IMHO.

The Whitworth is a bit light for me with-full house Lotts, too. But I never saw or heard of a Zastava gun with a welded bolt handle, regardless of the importer. You might want to double check that. If it really is welded, then I'm guessing someone cut off the original and replaced it.

There are used to be a lot of Chas Daly bolts blued and ready to go on eBay, I'm sure their selling them somewhere else now.

Sarco has original rear island three-blade sight for them very cheap, if you want to go back to the Express Rifle look.

It's definitely welded -- looks like a good weld, for whatever that's worth.
