Hi richj,

That's a very strong action, would work for just about anything. How about a 450/400 Nitro Express?
Should be the same bullet diameter I think.

1885 hi wall should have enough barrel width to do a 450-400 (using .411 rather than .410

And the 450/400 is a rimmed cartridge, ideal for a single shot.

405 barrels vary quite a bit, the standard was .413, but this rechambering could be done. And I have the reamer. Extractor mod is the tedious part.

The 1885 is in the same shop that had a 270 a few months ago, $999. Octagon barrel. I'll have to get a second look

Being a shooter of the .405, I have to ask why you do not want that rifle in that caliber?

You could rebarrel to 35 Winchester, keep the same extractor and be the coolest guy at the range.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."
