While I was in Dallas for DSC I met Craig Libhart, he was participaing in the American Custom Gunmakers Guild Exhibition. He along with David Dunn have developed a drop-in CNC-machined safety for the #1. As many of you know the expended round hangs up when trying to eject. This solves this problem with a very nice looking fix. They are available thru Trop Gun Shop in Etown Pa. check their web site. Price until the end of Jan/12 is $59.99, I think. I just ordered 4. tu2

Jagter: Thanks for the heads up. Are these easy to install or is this a job for a smith?

Craig said you can do it yourself, but for me I want a pro as I don't realy don't do anything with a gun except shoot it and clean it. I don't reload etc. I work hard to pay someone else to handle those items.

Just google Trop Gun Shop.

I had my 416 Taylor made on a Santa Barbara Msuser barreled action with a MPI thumbhole stock and no it won't rip your thumb off! I really like the 416 Taylor, I took my Elephant and Hippo with it. It doesn't recoil like most other 416's, and it may have something to do with the compsite stock. I have a 338 with the composit thumbhole stock and I am using a composit thumbhole stock on my 395/400 Ruger #1 being built now.

GOB you will have to excuse my stupidity ( having lived in Pa over 70 yrs) where is Benton?

Look down in the single shot forums and there's more on the Ruger No. 1 safety fix from Trop Gun Shop.

Just received one Thursday that I'm going to install on my 450/400. It is faultlessly executed and very nicely blued. Shouldn't take over 30 minutes to install. Incidentally comes with excellent directions. I don't know that I have seen a better executed aftermarket part.

Thanks for the reminder on this Ed.
I need some of those.
So far I have dealt with the problem by just having Rusty shorten the front flat portion of the safety button and bevel it.
The Trop Gun Shop button is much prettier and better.
Right off the bat I need 4 of them for my "special" Ruger No.1 rifles:

.395/400 Nitro Express 3-Inch "Aboriginal" aka 10.03 x 75R
.395 Tatanka
450 Nitro Express 3-1/4" "Thin Rim"
500 A-Square

Ruger No.1 rifles can be very accurate, like this 500 A-Square.
It took only 4 shots to get zeroed, then the next 3 shots grouped at 100 yards like this,
with a 5X setting on the 1.5-5X Leupold.
The 4X-16X Sightron requires a 5-mil holdover for 750-grain A-Max to be on target at 942 yards, when sighted 3 inches high at 100 yards,
from a sit in the cattle pasture with long bipod:

Did Rusty build all of those #1s for you. What is the difference in the two 395s.

Hi Ed,
Kevin Jenkins built the 500 A-Square Ruger No.1 in 1997 as my shop mule for long throating to establish the 500 JAB BRNO ZKK 602 pictured with it.

Rusty has done three Ruger No.1 rifles for me.
1. 400/.395 NE
2. .395 Tatanka
and the simplest of all,
3. 450 NE conversion of a stainless .458 Lott. The same can be done with a .458 WinMag.

My .395 Wildcats, there are 5:

Left to Right: 400/.395 NE, .395 H&H, .395 Ruger Max, 398 Lapua Magnum, .395 Tatanka

The Rusty McGee Ruger No.1 rifles:

1. 400/.395 NE pictured with a 40-cal/.395-ball flintlock custom made by Rusty also:

2. .395 Tatanka:

3. 450 NE:

The easy fix of the safety button by Rusty:

Ejector with some dye-chem still on it after re-fitting to the new chambering, no barrel setback required, simple rechamber:

Brass pins in the grip area as a reinforcement of the laminated stock:

Barrel stamp, X-out the "Lott" add the "450 NE" above the ".458":

Slip-on recoil pad gives me the LOP I want:
