A local gun shop has a control round feed M70 in 416 rem mag for sale. The wood is better than any Ive seen and doesnt have any dings or scratches. It does have a barrel size muzzle brake, two cross bolts, and a barrel band sling. I can get it for 1,500 out the door. Seems like a reasonable price in that it includes tax.7.75%, and transfer. Except for the brake it looks new and original. Is this the last version safari express? Would it be stamped as such on the barrel? I can go look at it again this weekend so what should I look for in terms of what version it is.

I'm selling my M70 458 Lott for 1,200, and it's not new, but it's in great shape.

I'd make sure the barrel on it will still be as long as you want it after you chop the muzzle break off. I also think you could have them cut a couple hundred off the asking price.

I have a late .375 Safari Classic. Mine says "Safari Classic" on the barrel's right side a few inches north of the breech. Check around on Gunbroker and Gunsamerica and see what, if any are available, and what they are going for. Sounds about right. I'd lose the muzzle brake, though. Rough on the hearing.

I bought mine in 1998 I think.I would want an older one instead of one of the last ones. They are awesome guns.I have shot mine about 1800 times. Its held together very well.I bought one of the last ones made and the rear site fell off. They fixed it under warrenty. You will really like that gun.Last year they brought up to $2500-3000 same gun.It will last you a life time.I just wish mine had a figerglass stock on it.

It's priced right, the .416 are the hardest to find and they are bringing a premium..I sold the last two I had for over $2000..I would buy that one in a heart beat, but you can get a .375 or 458 for considerably less.

I will check and see what the stamp says on the barrel. Not sure I want to deal with a muzzle brake but Ill make that decision later. Thanks for the info.

............You might try shooting it with the brake befor you say no brake ....It sure makes it easier to shoot accurately .......

A friend suggested the brake might be a answer system screw on so I will check to see. If it is I can just screw on a cap when I hunt and save the PH's ears.

I like a muzzle brake that screws on..Then use a thread protector cap when hunting with the rifle..It sure makes it nice for working up loads and extended shooting sessions to have a brake on a big rifle...

My local gun shop has two Winchester model 70 classic 458 Win. Mag's. on the consignment rack. One has the original wood stock and the other has a black mpi stock on it. $1300 for each one. They both look new.

Took a good look at the gun yesterday . The brake does screw on, answer system, so I can have a cap made for hunting. The gun feeds the dummy rounds that I made for it very smoothly. The barrel stamp is safari express. No way this gun was ever hunted with its to clean but the previous owner claims it to be a tack driver. Looks like I will have something to use my 416 dies on again. Thanks for the input.
