I thought this might be of some interest. Brass is Alexander Arms Bullets are Rainier 334 FMJ Primer is CCI 350 All loads were loaded to 0.2 grains total powder cahrge weight variation. Barrel was kept to 90 F +/- 20 F. (yes it was warmed up) Ambient temperature - 24 F Cartridges were kept warm until firing time, and they sat in the chamber prior to firing for 5 - 7 seconds (yes I really timed it). The theoretical predictions: Quote: ================================ Here are the actual results: IMR 4227 36.5 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1261 1429 1262 1182 1263 1216 1383 1258 1282 1421 Extreme spread - 247 fps Avg velocity - 1296 fps Standard Deviation - 85 fps 10 Shot group @ 100 yards - 10.5" ==================================== IMR4227, 40 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1583 1597 1450 1519 1487 1501 1592 1543 1567 1517 Extreme Spread - 147 fps Average velocity - 1536 fps Standard Deviation - 49 fps 10 shot group @ 100 yards - 7.5" ======================================== IMR4227, 44 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1688 1642 1662 1671 1690 1632 1627 1616 1643 1754 Extreme Spread - 138 fps Average velocity - 1663 fps Standard Deviation - 41 fps 10 shot group @ 100 yards - 6.75" ================================= H110, 38 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1874 1694 1783 1772 1793 1843 1764 1770 1803 1687 Extreme Spread - 187 fps Average velocity - 1620 fps Standard Deviation - 58 fps 10 shot group @ 100 yards - 9.0" =================================== H110, 40 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1970 1769 1893 1901 1808 1889 1898 1918 1829 1785 Extreme Spread - 201 fps Average velocity - 1866 fps Standard Deviation - 65 fps 10 shot group @ 100 yards - 9.5" ========================================= H110, 42.5 grains Muzzle velocity (fps) 1884 1890 1882 1841 2038 2038 1891 1918 1933 1950 Extreme Spread - 197 fps Average velocity - 1927 fps Standard Deviation - 66 fps 10 shot group @ 100 yards - 9.5" ====================================== All the loads tested, in plain englished, sucked! Accuracy was simply terrible! This has been the norm for this rifle by the way. The theoretical calculations: With regard to velocity, calculations were way off for IMR4227, and way off to so so for H110. With regard to pressure, the pressure signs on the IMR4227 cases are literally non-existent, although the 44 grain charge weight of IMR4227 I would consider a MAXIMUM load in my rifle. However, H110 shows significant pressure signs at a charge weight of 40 grains, and extractor marks/bolt face rim rings at a charge weight of 42.5 grains. So I would consider a charge of 40 grains of H110 to be a MAXIMUM load in my rifle . IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: From past experience, both H110 and W296 are EXTREMELY temperature sensitive. If you engage in 10 round rapid fire events, the 42.5 grain charge will blow primers, at least it has in my rifle. This data is provided free of charge and is intended for reference only. Please, DO NOT start out at my maximum loads. I believe you will be safe if starting out with my starting loads, however. Again Alexander Arms recommends a load of 37.9 gr of Lil'gun beneatht the Rainier 334gr FMJ. I will try this load out at a later date. Will report on the findings then. Scott

Forget to mention the other test. Swaged down Barnes Original 450 grain bullets. They were swaged to a diameter of 0.5005" (from their original .510") Alexander Arms brass CCI 200 primer (pocket depth increased by 0.01" on lathe) 48.7 grains of IMR4895 Three shots fired with the following muzzle velocities 1206 fps 1253 fps 1219 fps Not shot for accuracy. Pressure was there, but not an issue yet. I ran out of powder column though so I will try Rel 7 and see what kinda velocities I can achieve. Probably will be able to get around 1350 fps or so. So is the myth of 1900 fps with 334gr bullets from a 16" barrel busted? Or is load work with Lil'gun required/ Scott

Hey Mouser? Everyone knows who the real Todd E is. In fact, everyone knows who the real Mouser is. But you got me stumped with the James Smith thing? Did you just pull another name out of your ass like all the others or what? You and ScottS talk it over and let me know.

Last installment, I promise. Resized the cases tonight. Threw out all but two cases, which had been loaded with 42.5gr of H110. Case head expansion was between 0.0051" and 0.0091" on the eight cases I threw out. The two "keepers" were 0.0039" and 0.004". I all of them through the die, trying to save them, they came out looking just like belted magnums! I could not get a very legible picture of them, although I do have some pics. I can post them if anyone wants to see them. The extractor groove follows the Ackley "improved case" philosphy, in that it has a much sharper angle than it did before "fire forming". There is a nice ring it the extractor groove too, from the bolt face ring! Scott

Axel you don't seem to be getting many responses so I thought I might post a comment. What a great job you are doing with that 50 Beowulf mate. Just goes to show where there is a will there is a way. Karl.

Pecos & Mauser, I would like to thank you (NOT ) for destroying my thread! Can't you guys go to some senseless forum like, oh I don't know, the Political & Namecalling forum, or something? Scott

Your "thread?" Hahahahaha. If it weren't for me, Scott, no one would even talk to your phony ass. I'm the closest thing you have to a friend. I at least give you a little of the attention you desperately crave...even if it's a kick in the ass. Maybe someday you'll grow up. (But I doubt it.)

This thread was reference material, not discussion material. So, you behave in the manner that you do, because you crave attention. Thank you for that bit of information Pecos, hence forth I shall simply ignore you. Besides this will give me an opportunity to see first hand if the "ignore" feature has some fundamental software flaw. Scott
