Has any one had any experience with copper fouling with Woodleigh Weldcore? Are they any better or worse than any others? It seems that I am getting a lot with 500 gr. 470's after 20 rounds......

Thats is interesting, though I dont doubt you, I shoot quite a few and dont experiance much "copper fouling". I know a few others on this board do also maybe they can help. The fastest cartridge I use them in is a 270.
I believe all Woodleigh jackets are made from CDA 220.

I get a fair amount of fowling in my .416 Rigby cz 550 barrel. I shoot the woodleigh 410 gr RN SN's, I am not sure if the barrel is rough or they fowl. A bit of sweets and some scrubing removes it however.

I shoot Woodleigh Weldcores in .416 Dakota, .416 Rigby, .458 WinMag and .450 Dakota. They are certainly easier to clean than TBBCs. I use Butchs Bore solvent and recently switched from Sweets to Montana X-Treme. All of these copper solvents work well at removing Woodleigh fouling.

As far as terminal performance is concerned, I think the Weldcore is one of the best big game bullets on the market. They perform flawlessly in the field and the are deadly accurate at the range. I dont think it gets much better.

I clean my big bores every 10 shots or so. It allows the cobwebs clear between strings. [Wink]

I have been using Woodleighs in 5 rifles (.358, .366, .474, .510 and .585) with ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF FOULING. However, due to the cost of the bullets I have not fired them extensively. But in comparison with Barnes X which show fouling after only a couple of shots, I find the Woodleighs very substantially superior.

Anytime you push a big jacketed bullet past 2300fps you can expect copper fouling. Last weekend I shot my 500A2 at 2450fps with 570 gr Woodleighs and it was a copper mine after 15 shots. I use Butch's bore shine, a brass brush and then Sweets to get it out. Sometimes even have to JB the bore.
On game, my experience has been that the woodleighs are fantastic! Worth every penny!-Rob

Contrary to what some believe, big bores foul more than varmint and hi-vel calibers, probably because the have more surface to foul...Most big bore bullets are made from malable and softer material for expansion purposes at lower velocities....but fouling has little if any effect on a big bore..so don't let it bother you, just clean it a little and let it be...
