mete"Nerves Destroyed" by Big Bore Shooting
Recoil ?
Why do some shotgun shooters use release triggers ??
One year i had damaged my wrist badly .During the 6 month healing I was doing a trigger job on my BHP.When I checked it ,it doubled .I asked my friend to shoot it - no doubling !
So firing with damaged wrist caused a pain which made me convulse and fire [instantly] a second time !

Dr. LouFWIW, I'll stick with my 375 H&H for Alaska and elk. If I find my way to Africa I may reach for my 416 Rem, but that's recoil enough for me.

It shot very well too.
I've worn glasses nearly my entire life. I've asked different doctors this question and every one said no, provided a persons eyes were healthy. I mentioned that I occasionally shoot a very hard recoiling (to many folks anyway, .460 WBY) rifle and the doctors have insisted I am in no danger of any retina damage from detachment or anything else.
FWIW, my loads are 500 gr. @ 2410 fps. 24"bbl. slightly reduced.

GrandpasezEd here- My guns are heavy and I use thumbhole stacks as much as possible.
I'm strong, stocky, big strong hands, but I'm also getting old at 72.
Knees are wore out, got some arthritis, and I use double thick recoil pads
and weight the guns. Real huge ones port the top of the muzzle.
All bench shooting is stand up benchs I put together..
Hairiest load is 1500gr 4bore at 2700 in 28lb gun, with
thumbhole stock, off hand. Thumbhole is the greatest help,
and reduces felt recoil by a quarter. I pull the gun to me with the
idea that I want to compress the double thick pads. Keeps more of
your weight tied to the gun, and that weight help reduce recoil
IE the gun doeasn't get a run at you. I'm not a real proficient
shooter, so I use all the technology to make it easier.ED

That hairiest 4 bore load is very impressive indeed.
You have quiet few more years on me and most likely the body size and weight as well, but what I lack in size I have in strength.
I'm a puny 5.10" 245 Pounds (for the last 30years anyway).
When I was young and stupid I spent years in "Iron strength" (Powerlifting, weightlifting, strongman etc.) at the highest level. Please do not confuse "Iron strength" with the useless Bodybuilding.
The competetive lifts are very technical and for most people alien and do not reflect directly to the actual raw strength.
Something what most people are familiar with and doesn't require any techique is something like sit ups.
My regular full sit ups were with 176 pounds loaded bar on the chest 4 sets X 15-20reps.
Or chin ups (chin over the bar) with 265 pounds tied to the belt for 5 sets X 4-6 reps.
Or 8" long partial deadlifts lock outs with 1017 pounds and 2" diameter bar for 3 sets X 3 reps. NO straps.
Or the same 8" long partial deadlifts with 930 pounds and 3" diameter bar. 2 sets X 2-3 reps. NO straps
These were my regular suplementary training excersizes performed twice a week. To target maximum core and forearm strength (not for shooting purposes) but as a part of iron lifting preparations.
Maybe now some will understand why my very first rifle I bought was .460Wea. and I do not have a recoil problem yet.
However you cannon maybe the test of the devil and soul. Once I got accidentally belted by my .460Wea when it fired before the butt made it into my shoulder.
I really think that something as big as your hairiest 4bore load can really seriously hurt or ever cripple someone if not properly shouldered.
I would have no problem to have a go at it and see what it is like. However it just may be too many of good things at once.
Even with the all available technology, there is a limit what one can handle
